it's made by white knight (who!) so think it's definatly a cheapo and it does still turn as normal but just doesn't get hot anymore so it don't dry the clothes

Most likely heater element. Usually about £50 to replace yourself...may as well buy a new dryer IMO ;)

Get a multimetre on the heater element connectors, should be a few hundred ohms. If it's a really high amount like a mega-ohm or open circuit then its knackered.

2nd problem could be the thermal switch...this is wired inline with the element.A continunity test will rule that out.

3rd could be (but unlikely) if you have a "cool tumble" switch which is faulty - continunity test will again rule that out.

Hi, The white knight range of tumble dryes sometimes have a reset button on the back panel . Turn the dryer round and look for a red plastic button and give it a push. Some times if the dryer gets too hot it can cause the cut out to pop out

They are all the same these "disposable" white goods..

I'm no nuclear scientist, but why dont you just turn it on for 5 minutes, see if it gets warm? ;)

hmmm right good point well switched it on and ....................nothing :( still doesn't seem to get hot looks like i've got to get the back off and start probing with the meter then.

Also make sure you set the timer switch for more than 10 mins as the last 10 mins of the program is cold anyway

had this problem wiv my "bosch" dryer....

you are quite likely to have:

thermal cut out activated - dryer got too hot - generally a small red push button - had to take off rear panel of my bosch to get to it.... However there is always a REASON for the thing getting too hot, most times it is simply that the outlet hose is blocked or restricted too much - if you have it running to a grille in the wall - take the grille apart and remove all the fluff from it.... or the dryers own filter has got too clogged and caused the cut out - check and reset the switch and off you go...

or it could be the element - fairly common too.... try checking the things above first as they are free....

regards

LOL my mum got in such a huff when I repaired her hoover....she was so looking forward to buying a new one  :D

Something that I did hear: Is if you use tumble dryer sheets such as "bounce", they can leave a invisible residue on the filter, blocking it up. So if those have been used, its worth giving a rinse and a gentle scrub under the tap :)
