I want to have my driveway done but don't really know what to expect in tems of cost.
I'm thinking of having either tarmac, flagging or that fancy imprinted concrete stuff.
The area is 16ft x 12ft and wll need full diggin out including the chopping out of some tree roots.
I know I could ask a driveway company, but they'll send a salesman round and I really just want to know so I know how much to save up. Obviously I only want a rough guide from people who either have had similar done or are in the trade or know someone that is.
£100 gypo jobs will not be considered ;)

start by budgeting about £60/sq m. recently paid approx £55/sq m (76sq m) incl sub-base all paving and a few steps up to a new house for marshalls tegular. economies of scale would suggest that your /metre rate may be higher considering you're dealing with an area of approx 18sq m

To have our driveway extended so that is had room for 2-3 cars rather than one small one we had a number of quotes. The most serious company which seemed to think we were going to place 38 tonne trucks on there quoted £1200 with a fully detailed quote and seventeen layers of various stuff going down a foot or so! We went for something slightly less industrial for £800. Not sure on square footage, but think 2 Scoobies and perhaps similar size to what yo're doing. The price included stripping the lawn, digging out 6-12 inches, and removing all waste, lifting 2 manhole covers and refitting so that they were flush with the sloping drive (previously they were in the section of garden we were replacing), relevant layers of foundation and tarmac, blending in with the existing drive, and replacing edging.
Three years later we're still happy and the old and new tarmac now match very well indeed - it took a few months for the new tarmac colour to 'calm down' :)

OK, did a proper design of my garden and decided I want to do a bigger area. The whole area I want doing is about 100sq m.
I've seen textured concrete advertised as "from £30 per sq metre". Does anyone have any experience of textured/sealed concrete?

I avoided textured sealed concrete due to the lack of guarentees I could be given, plus heard a lot of compliants about slippery have to reseal and it moving - really did not want to risk it
went for blocks
rough prices I had for 85sq m. was
£3.8k for tarmac
£4.2k for cheap blocks
£4.5k for better blocks
that was for removing a garden etc
wall, lights, powerpoints etc were all extra :)

Textured concrete generally looks false and naff, needs a few years to look remotely natrual.
