Moving into a house soon that has a loft conversion and 4 large Velux windows but they have no blinds which makes it rather useless as a bedroom!

Saw these http://www.veluxblinds.com/price/priceremsiesta.htm and wondered if the remote control versions are worth double the price of the normal manual ones? Sounds cool to just press a button in the morning and be revealed to the sun ;) Anyone got them - are they reliable and does one remote work for all?

Cheers

Anyone got them - are they reliable

Velux are a very successful Danish company, and so their products are:
i) Expensive
ii) Very well designed
iii) Very well manufactured
...and therefore probably very reliable.

I've not got any Velux blinds (although I do have some Velux windows), and never even seen any, so this post is totally opinion based and therefore ignorable, but I've never come across anything of Danish origin that didn't have the above three attributes!

May sound obvious... but Velux blinds will only fit Velux windows - not all roof windows are Velux....

I've got a manual blind on one and it's been superb - expensive, but very well made. If it was higher, or I had more than 1, I'd definately go remote.

I too like the Danes - they were very complimentary about my car when I drove it over there once, and loved the fact that TVR's were probably quite illegal there :)

Anyway, about £75 for a standard manual blind [which makes me choke on my breakfast] but the nod to quality is good to hear!

we've bought from these people before - http://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/velux-blinds.htm and installed them in new houses. never had any complaints. we usually put power behind a blanking plate next to the window for future installation of remote blinds but to my knowledge, none of our purchasers have ever taken up this option as all seem happy with the manual pole option
the quality is definately worth paying for though. very easy to fit!

We have 3 of the biggest Velux windows, and the black out blinds are excellent - yes they are expensive, but well worth it. I can reach the top - my missus has to use the pole, but having spent so much money on the house, it wasn't worth the remote option which is expensive. After all, how often do you open or close curtains?

But at the current weather temps, our loft is bloody boiling, and the Velux do little to stop the heat! Blinds closed, you touch them and they are so hot you cannot keep your hand on them. The one downside of a loft conversion as I have no found out...
