View Full Version : TT on Men & Motors
Bravo2zero_sps 08 June 2005, 19:51 :eek2: holy fook those guys are off their trolleys :eek2: How close to the stone walls at 160mph :o
Makes track racing look like a gentle Sunday afternoon stroll. Wonder how Rossi would do on the TT!
Nicks VR4 08 June 2005, 19:56 Been watching it since monday too during the day
I love working at home ;)
shats the life out of me when onboard cam is going total nutters
Bravo2zero_sps 08 June 2005, 20:01 I've done an indicated 170 on a dual carriageway and that was like tunnel vision and not something I would do again, they're doing it on country roads :o
They must have labotomy's before they go out to race of a morning.

Private Road then ;)
I followed a biker on the M55 towards Blackpool at a silly speed
We got off at the same junction he let me over take him I think we wanted to know what that car was lol
Then he overtook me and gave a thumps up I flashed him :D
Bravo2zero_sps 08 June 2005, 21:00 Chesterfield bypass on the way to Donnington from Sheffield. Was a mad moment not to be repeated, not big or clever but had to try it just once to see what it felt like, was trying to keep up with a group of bikes and they carried on pulling away from me!
No amount of money could make me ride at that speed for long stints especially around country roads like the TT, those guys just can't have any fear of anything. On track at least you have nice run offs and safety barriers if it all goes wrong, these TT guys one slip up and their dead staright into a stone wall or a building at 170, total bonkers.
chrisT.O.T.B. 08 June 2005, 21:20 spectating at the bottom of bray hill redefines your description of speeding!

I sat on the bus stop there for the proddy 1000cc race last year. Couldn't figure out what the scraping noises were until i saw white scratches appearing on the road on the apex of the bend. It was only the fairings grounding out at 160mph or so as the bikes bottomed out in the dip.
Also spectated in a hedge on a straight somewhere just past Bradden (Barregarow maybe?) for the F1 race, the leading bikes were getting nearly 1ft of air under the wheels coming over a slight brow at 170mph+. That was spectacluar enough until lap 2 or 3 where McGuinness and Archibald came over it side by side - both off the ground.
rallycol 08 June 2005, 23:51 I've stayed at my in-laws ,who live on Bray Hill, watching there alone, proves that any other form of motorsport is for puffs!!!!!
fast bloke 09 June 2005, 02:00 awesome stuff - knee down at 60 MPH makes you feel like god on 2 wheels. Can't imagine what knee down at 170 does for the ego :D
scooby-si 09 June 2005, 03:58 two wheels are for the girlies round the TT;)

Danny B 09 June 2005, 10:26 Feck that, you wouldn't catch me doing a Mad Sunday..
http://sport.guardian.co.uk/motorcycling/story/0,10531,1499209,00.html
I've done mad sunday twice in the scooby, they're right in saying there can be total carnage there. They closed the mountain for a few hours on mad sunday last year due to a fatality, probably a good idea as it was foggy as hell up there.
Last year, a mate i was there with (on his bike) came upon an accident which had just happened at windy corner. Police were already attending, and as he filtered slowly past he said there was a foot (in a boot) lying in the road.
I don't think I'd do mad sunday again in a car or on a bike. It's getting too busy there these days with sheer volume of traffic, it's pretty scary when you're doing 140+ (legally) and people are passing you on both sides of the road.
unclebuck 09 June 2005, 19:45 Yep. Very impressive. They are all pretty long in the tooth too. It must take years to build your knowledge of the roads and confidence to do those kinds of speeds safely I guess.
One of the races was SIX laps  That's over 200 miles - at those speeds. The concentration required to do that is mind boggling!!
The sidecars were awesome too. Those guys really get knocked about by the bumps.
Its just not the same without Joey and Dave Jeffries is it?
Bravo2zero_sps 09 June 2005, 20:09 Watching it again now, if my front wheel ever came up and I wheelied over the brow of hill at that speed i'd shat myself lol The Mrs is watching it in disbelief, I can't believe some of the wobbles they get and don't come off :o
scooby-si 10 June 2005, 04:18 Hey guys this is the arsehole that thinks a car holds the record round the TT lmfao. Sorry mate, having a bad morning and misread your post. I withdraw my comment and apologise fully. :o
Andy Porter 10 June 2005, 12:27 Astounded at the onboard footage  total respect for those guys
white van man 10 June 2005, 13:41 Not into bikes myself, but the TT races have always fascinated me, just some of the most amazing/ stupidly dangerous/ balls of steel racing there is. It is something that I am determined to go see live before the do-gooders inevitably get it banned.

since when as a hot lap been a lap record:rolleyes: a hot lap is a fast lap not lap record. and it was done by tony pond (i think) not sure what the car (rover comes to mind).as they wanted to see want the car time was like to a bike time and it was done on tt week;)
Yes, it was Tony Pond and in a Rover, few years ago now. I was there, he was a good driver and the Rover was OK at the time, would love to see Petter Solberg have a go at it now.
A fast lap at the TT is a fast lap, even if it is not in a race as all the riders go off at 10 sec intervals. Whatever it's bloody scary, one of my mates over there had a rally car and we did a lap on mad Sunday and his local knowledge pissed off a few of the bikers, but there was always some nut coming by at over 150.
Worth a visit anytime not just TT week, no speed limit outside town......
brybusa 10 June 2005, 14:45 Yes, it was Tony Pod and it was a tweaked Rover Vitesse thing.
He achieved a best of 99mph average
When Tony did it he did not have a navigator (to save weight) he lived on the Island and knew the roads.
If someone had a go with pace notes they could put is a really good time, it takes some of the TT riders years to learn the course.
Worth going in Sept for the Manx GP it's much quieter..
scooby-si 10 June 2005, 14:54 thought it was just short of a 100mph because the ywhere a bit peed off about it lol
god we showing are ages now ;)
just had a look which was my dads 1st ACU TT badge 1955 and the last was 1992 not bad just sort of 40yrs:)
Its just not the same without Joey and Dave Jeffries is it?
Or HIZZY the true master of the TT, you could put a line of masking tape round every corner and he would hit it every lap.
scooby-si 10 June 2005, 14:59 hizzy and foggy:notworthy
hizzy and foggy:notworthy
Foggy was scary, never had the style of Hislop.
Honda actually told Hislop to back off because they thoght Foggy would kill himself.
