Does it matter if it opens inwards or outwards? It seems to me that it would be better to have it open outwards so it is not "in the way" in the kitchen when open.

Incidentally, it is actually too late for any replies to be acted upon as I have already asked the builder to dismantle the door frame and turn it round. When I came home yesterday it was aleady fitted to open into the kitchen. I just wondered if there are any significant reasons why it should open inwards.

tia. :)

(although a bit p*ssed off that I didn't think of this before the builder started  )

It's just a matter of personal choice i guess.

I'd recommend having hinge pins fitted to stop anyone from being able to open the door by knocking out the pivot pins from the hinges.

Doesn't seem right or worng, but on sunny days why block some of the kitchen with doors that open inwards when there is no need to. Or, to put it another way, you walk into the house via the front door (so most will open in) and out of the house via the back door, so most will open out. It;s the flowing lines etc....

Well, that's my argument.

John - good point about the hinges, I will check that they are secure.

Mightyyid - I agree with you about the "flow lines". The door now opens outward (after a bit of cursing from the builder!), and it is clearly a better arrangement. Have to say I was very impressed with the guy that did the work - all the cut outs in the frame and door were filled in with matching hardwood so that they are pretty much invisible.
