Was it just me or does anyone else believe that there are only two throttle and two brake positions. Both are on and off. Just been reading about people getting 60-70 MPG from a sports bike - jeez - people - go and buy a Daihatsu diesel hybrid  :p

On and off seems to work for me. Only time I've got more than 40mpg from mine is travelling in convoy with the missus. Still, the scenery was nice!

Its down to 90-100 miles before reserve on a group rideout, and on trackdays onto reserve on the 5th session @ Donington last year.

I didn't buy it for economy but I'm not complaining that it is good. It doesn't mean that I don't know how to wind it on, and you have to wring the bikes neck to get the performance from it.

I've got a shogun for sh!tty consumption when I like spending money  .

As for the on road heroics, 2 throttle positions are all part of 'Natural Selection', I save that type of riding for the track.

Hmm. Got a 92 Blade with 134bhp at the rear wheel. Economy improved from about 42/43 mpg when standard to 50mpg now ......

I'm with Drunkenorgy on this one - there is almost NO time on the road you can use full throttle on a modern big bike - or in my case an almost-classic big bike ....

The comment I made re MPG was in reference to how much cheaper bikes are compared to summat like running a scoob..No more , no less

I think to be fair - the only place you can use 100% of both as you say would be on the track ;) On the roads thats way unsmooth riding.... and possibly dangerous.

To make good progress you should use what suites the road and conditions.

I get an absolute maximum of 40mpg from the gixer when commuting. Don't know how the hell you could get 70mpg from a big sports bike!

Just did a quick calc - approx £11 from reserve to full = 3 gallons
153 miles on that one run to reserve = approx 51mpg, I have had 175 miles before now from full to reserve on different runs which is closer to 60mpg.
If I were to stick really rigidly to the limits and feather the throttle, I could get a bit more, but thats not why I bought it.

We are doing a rideout from Swindon (little chef on Blunsdon hill 9:00am) to Bornemouth with the MCNNinjas on sunday if anyone wants to join us (other meeting points in the west midlands also). It should be a good turnout. I will do another mileage check then as its about 200 miles round trip.
