just need some advice as ive ever needed to claim on insurance before.....

yesterday i reversed my car into someone else's, the damage to his new vectra is a big scuf about a foot long on his rear bumper and ive managed to put a hole in it aswell of about 2 inch round. mines faired better on the fact ive only got a scuffed bumper and a small hole in my rear lamp. he is someone i know which is a bonus i suppose.

my questions are what is my best option and how do i go about it??

do i get his repaired and pay out of my pocket ??
do i go through the insurance and get both cars fixed ??

if he claims on his insurance but i dont and get mine sorted myself, do i still pay the excess ??

whats my insurance likely to sufer by next year ??
im protected 9 years ncb at the moment.

also to go through the insurance what do i do ?? do i ring them and he rings his, or do i have to sort it all out or what ?

sorry for the questions but i have no idea about this stuff....

Personally, I'd get it fixed and pay the guy cash and avoid the insurance companies. Even though your bonus is protected it will still go up next year, and be on record for the next 5 years. All of which means that the insurance companies can screw you for the next 5 years.
Only use the insurance companies if the repair bill is too much for you to pay, but remember any excess you have, you have to pay first, so if you have a £450 excess, and the bill comes to £500, the insurance will only pay £50 leaving you to pay the rest.
Also, if your going to pay the guy cash, make sure the repair centre know that you are paying money for it & not involving the insurane company. Why? cos they mark up there prices to get more money, which put's up everyone's insurance premium.
Rip-off Britain.

thanks

just looked tonight and the excess is £300
im tempted just to pay him the repair cost and sort my light / bumper out some other time.

i see your point about the fact its on record for 5 years - robbers

right he has had a coule of quotes and they are all over £600 !! so it looks like im going to go through the insurance...

the company im with is a-plan policy underwritten by markerstudy
who do i ring to inform of a crash ?? a-plan or markerstudy?

when i ring what do i need to do ? i have made myself a nice sketch.

i probably wont claim myself as the damage is negligable, a s/h lamp will do and the scratches most had t-cut out.

any advice ??? thanks

Just contact A-plan initially and they will talk you through the rest, they will advise you of the claims line for Markerstudy to get it all sorted.

Hold onto the sketch as you will more than likley have a provide one once the claim formk has been sent to you.

If you don't claim for your damage you will not have to pay an excess towards the other person's bill, your insurance company is liable for the whole amount.

Good luck
