Default Eibachs - New from Ebay

Just bought a set of Eibachs springs for my car from Ebay...

New, though without a box.

Have been told that these will lower my car by 40mm...is this true as i thought it was less then that?

Also what do i need to look out for when i recieve them..(incase i am being ripped off)

Cheers

They should say 'Eibach' in grey paint on them and have a number on them, something like '32000' on one and '24000' on the other.

Fit them yourself - they are easy enough and spring compressors are not required if you have someone to help you. Just remember that the longer springs go on the back!!

Yep, I thought that the front ones would be longer as they were higher poundage (seemed logical!).
The springs seemed a bit loose in the bottom cup, but let it go as they are aftermarket springs, it was only after the front end was all re-assembled and I tried to fit the front springs to the back and the springs were too large that I realised what I had done!
I bought my springs 2nd hand off here so didn't get any 'de'structions.

Have you got yours on yet coulty?
You could probably give Sam the exact numbers off the springs if you haven't.

For some reason I have not been getting any email alerts from Scoobynet….

Got the springs, will check for the number on them shortly.

Have never actually taken off the shock before, though if no compressor is required and can be put o with a helping hand I am willing to give it a try…

Mine just had numbers on them, no letters. Do they say eibach an them?
I think they are eibach's though, I found a reference to them on a german bbs website, here is the translation!

Hello Timo, the Eibachfedern with the same partial appraisal are not with me blocked so far without Probleme.Sowohl in the Eibach folder and in the partial appraisal is there for ALL engine models zugelassen.Im delivery note stands suitably for Impreza STI, turbo and current model!!!??? Since it fits however with me and other one and is removed also TUEV, wrong feathers/springs would know in the correct cardboard been be up the feathers/springs are the Bez.zu see for in front EW7705001 u.hinten EW7705002.Kontrolliere those once with you evt.. Greeting Subimp

Although you do not need compressers to put them on, just a bit of weight, you could do with them to take the old ones off. If you just undo the nut at the top of the damper the nut, sprint top and spring will go flying off - be bery careful doing this - I have heard of someone being shot in the leg with a flying nut before and it made a bit of a mess!

Before I bought spring compressers I tied the coils together with thick welding wire. They are only about £15 for a set from halfords anyway.

Default idiots guide

Okay..

just checked the Eibach website, and the numbers match and it is a 30ml drop, though on the site it says can be up to 40mm assuming they mean maybe with other cars!

I need an idiots guide to how i can take the shocks out to change the springs....Can someone please help me....

I am guessing it will take approx 2 hours per side...?

Thanks
Sam

Im waiting for a set for my Scoob-ive had a quick look at whats involved.

This is for the front-but the rear should be the same.

Basically, loosen wheel bolts, jack car up,remove wheel,remove/unattach any wires(abs)/brake lines from the bottom of the strut, undo 3 strut top bolts from engine bay, undo the 2 bolts at bottom of strut, remove strut,(ideally)compress spring with spring compressors, undo the 1 nut from the middle of the top mount, remove spring.

Fitting the new spring/strut back together is done in the reverse order.

Anyone else feel free to add anything i may have missed

Gary.

An addition:

Make sure you mark the position of the arrow on the struts relative to the bolt heads for the adjustable camber bolts before taking them off. Your alignment won't be 100% but it'll be nearish if you do this.

These bolts are the ones that hold the strut to the hub, the top bolts on the front only (as standard they are not fitted to the backs).

Sam, as asked in my post, I have the same numbers as you.
Clear up VA and HA : Vorderasche and Hinterasche (front and rear axle), seems pretty simple now eh...

Okay...i am going to get Rob to fit these for me hopefully Wednesday....

I have the springs..is it worth me changing anything else when the springs are changed?

something that will not cost an arm and a leg, will run the standard shocks...

I replaced the rubber donuts that fit to the top of the front springs as one had a hole in it. My car is a MY00 that has done 90,000 miles so yours might not need replacing. In hindsight I should have replaced the smaller rubber washers that fit to the bottom of the back spring also as they were a bit worn.

Depending on what camber you want to set yours to, I'd get some adjustable camber bolts also. If you want 1° of camber you are meant to be able to achieve this without the bolts, any more than that and you will probably need them (mine is set to 1.5°). If you have hit the kerb with the rear end and damaged a wishbone you may also need them.
I bought the Whiteline versions from Demon Tweeks, though wherever you take it to get the alignment done should have some in stock.
