Guys,

Anyone travelling into Belfast using the Sydenham bypass should take car when going into the 30zone.
Obviously when travelling up the hill on the bypass you cant see the traffic lights at the bottom on the other side.
However two policemen on bikes have an excellent view of you as up come over the brow of the hill!

So be warned - one of these guys has his wee speed gun, the other CHiPS guy is on his bike and awaiting the signal to nail you!

Personally I'm now sick of this. We're now just classed as revenue generation. Especially with the like of the above.

Who can I complain to? - The Ombudsman?

They had one of their nice white vans parked opposite Forestside shopping centre on the Saintfield road this morning with the laser pointing out the back of it. I felt a whole lot safer on the rest of the journey, knowing that the powers that be are so concerned about slowing us all down, their only
motive obviously being our welfare (Nothing to do with the money they were lifting in fines I'm sure!)

Its a job well done especially when they sit down and work out where all the accident black spots are. How many people were killed outside forestside in the last 5 years. I`d guess none. There are plenty of dangerous roads, why do they not go there. ok they will make less money, but might be able to suggest road improvements and saves lives. Grrrrr dont start me on this topic.

Seriously though, can a complaint be registered with the ombudsman?

I fully support all PSNI resources being used for speed traps around Belfast! :D

There is no excuse for speeding in build up areas and where the speed limits are 30 & 40.

I'm happy the police are keepig a tight ship round the city as it means there are less on the back roads where you can have fun.

Firstly Rumpler, if you know the Sydenham bypass bridge which I;m talking about - its hardly a built up area now?

What really pisses me off is policemen hiding like wee animals in darkened areas or areas where you can't really see them, nor expect to see them.

You need to be very careful around East Belfast as the traffic branch hang out in Lisnasharagh on the Montgomery Road.

I think its called Operation Viper where they goafter motorists, they have caught a hundreds already this year. I'm not against the Police tackeling car crime but what is the ratio of people procecuted for stealing/joy rideing as opposed to speeding.

I agree m8 that Sydenham bypass 30 limit is a total joke. They changed it when they finished those road works and it's a stupid limit.

Thank goodness the cops do tend to stay in the same places over and over as it means in your local area at least you know where to take it easy and be more careful of the limit.

Maybe they should carry wee signs to place a mile up the road to warn you of a speed trap! ;)

In all seriousness the limits marked as 30 to 50 must be stuck to as well as keeping your wits about you on main roads and motorways as those will and are used for money collection/preventing speeding for our safety.

Plenty of fun still to be had on the right roads and who needs to be speeding around Belfast, any other built up area or in a straight line down the motorways?

About what? Dear Nuala please stop the nasty peeler trying to stop me speeding around Belfast! Go on I dare you to try it! :D

I didn't say I was speeding around Belfast, was mearly warning other road users of these two planks standing at the bottom of the Sydenham bridge like wee dogs.

I'm every bit against speeding in certain areas as anyone else, but speed limits need to be readdressed.
How long ago was 70 on a motorway set? 40+years ago? when the stopping distance of a car from 70 was tomorrow.

Oh and regards your stupid sarcastic Dear Nuala comment - I won't even bother to comment

The point I'm trying to make is that the motorist is being targeted because they're an easy touch, nothing else. Thats why I want to complain - not because I was speeding.
Who's out preventing real crime?

Wouldn't matter what the speed limit gets set at it will always be broken, maybe they should remove speed limits all together....then you couldnt get caught speeding.

Thought that was quite funny myself :D

Dont speed or dont get caught ;) and they wont have any reason too.....

Agreed problem seems to be they can do nothing with the scum when they catch them !

Urban by all means complain about motorists being targeted and keep us all informed on your progress!

I actually disagree about your thoughts on the 70 MPH limit because it has to cater for the lowest type of driver not for us who would like to think/probably have fairly decent road driving skills!

Of course the motorist is being targeted seeing as we have a terrible death rate and sadly an awful lot of the general public are now swallowing the guff that "speed kills" rather than p1ss poor driving!

I'd love to go back to when I drove on the roads with zero worry about the cops but now they aren't worried about being blown up/shot the PSNI need to be seen to be doing something!

Don't take my sarcastic comments to heart, sure when we are all banned from driving we can all swap stories about how clean the bus is! :D

Not speeding doesn't mean you will not get caught. Check out this TV show where they used a laser speed gun to detect a wall speeding at 58mph, plus moving traffic on a motorway slip road travelling backwards and also at zero mph:
