Choices of replacement lights for bugeye's
Does anyone know of any alternative's to the bugeye lights? I've seen the morette's and they look reasonable.
I've also seen in pictures, similar looking lights to the bugeye but in black ? what are they ....
Also on the standard bugeye light's can you get rid of the amber 'area' at the top of the lights, id that just the bulb colour being reflected around??
cheers for any help

You can get Prodrive lights which are the ones as fitted to the 'UK 300' (look for a pic of a UK 300), or STI lights either JDM or UK spec, which are IMO nicer looking. Yes you can remove the orange inside the lights, this makes quite a diff, do a search for 'de-tango' to get some details and pics...
Morettes:
Prodrive:
(blame the bad pics on Subaru).
I've also seen a third-party set of lights from (IIRC) Italy, but can't remember who made them. Note that if you want to fit the STi lights then you will need to make changes to the wiring loom, but the above two are straight plug-in jobs.
Personally I like the Morettes.

The third option for bug eye replacements are made by Orciari and are available from Scoobyworld http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/cgi-bin...2/17/index.htm
I've got them fitted to my MY01 WRX, the fitting is not to difficult, but the wiring is an absolute bas*ard (cable colours on wiring diagram don't match the cars wiring (headlamp levellers), and i've had the surround painted to match the car, would post a pic but don't know how

Meridian - I know what STi lights look like, I owned one for two years. The original comment was "similar looking lights to the bugeye but in black". Never mind if the main beam and dip are in different places the STi lights are similar looking (one piece round and buggy shape perspex cover) and in black. So I rest my case, I think Jammer was referring to STi lights!
Cheers guys, thats a lot of info, blimey those lights from scoobyworld are expensive - £550!!!!! I do like the black surround though, i think they go better with a blue or dark coloured scoob.
The silver scoob of supertouring looks good after being de-tango'ed ...
So to recap ..... (DOH!)
Morettes at £350ish
Prodrive black bug eye's at ???
STI lights at ??
and the Orciari option at £550!
I guess i approach a dealer or scrappie for the prodrive or STI lights?
any further help would be appreciated.
SLAPHEAD - you can send me an email with a pic attached of you want to j@jcpuk.com
cheers again guys

The Prodrive lights are £600 from a main dealer, but I assume you can get them a bit cheaper elsewhere.
And remember (as I said) that STi lights have different wiring, although I'd told you can get a conversion kit.

Morettes are the one's for me but -
do these provide a better lighting performance than standard bugeye lights? (and in what respect?).
Also, is swapping (taking off standard bugeye light units and fitting in morrettes) a simple straightforward DIY job? I had heard somewhere that wiring had to be upgraded or changed etc. which would make it a mechanic job for me.

So hopefully with that and the carbon splitter, and a new grille, then thats the front end sorted out!
cheers

2) The wiring for the WRX and STI is different. If you go from OEM WRX to WRX Morettes, then yes, it's a straight swap with one extra bit of wiring to connect the set to the battery. If you go from OEM STI to STI Morettes (I believe they exist) then ditto. But if you try to fit STI lights into a WRX or vice-versa then you need a loom converter or some electrical knowledge to split the connectors.

Two wires - one to each battery terminal. Only problem I found was that the alarm bleeped at me when I loosened the +ve terminal, even though I never actually took it off. But everything worked just fine afterwards. There are ring connectors on each wire, so it's just a case of removing the nut and placing the connector on the bolt, then refitting the nut.
