Car supermarket that offers descent discounts on new Scooby's. Wondered if anyone has used them and what the general opinion is.
Warranty appears to be same 3 yrs, spec same, tracker costs extra, but its still cheaper for a type uk sti than at dealers.

Wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.
Specs may also differ, some euro imports dont have the A-DCCD.
Uk warranty is better than the pan euro warranty.
26k v 22k, add the alarm and tracker, then look at the resale value and you may as well have bought the UK car (plus Subaru UK's finance will be considerably better than motorpoints, saving you the extra 3k unless your buying cash).

I agree with Tonyburns. Once you take into consideration all the costs to mae it the same as uk spec then it ain't worth it.

Spec is the same. It is an 05 type UK in every way, (unless any1 can tell me different) DCCD, Aircon, wheels, tyres even, £20999 have to fit a tracker to it + PDI = 22k.
Thats quite a saving. Pays for PPP + some 18's

Resale time, the first delivery stamp in the book will be from a dealer in Malta probably, but if I get it serviced at Subaru dealers will it matter?

Watch out about PPP. I understand it will have to be done in the country of origin.

There have been quite a few people who have reported on this board that when pressed (i.e. push came to shove, scrutiny was placed, Motorpoint asked to put their claims in writing), Motorpoint could not come up with the goods as advertised.

I would personally recommend you stay away, import one from the mainland personally (it's easy!! :D ) or go to a recommended and respected Importer. I have done both, once from Holland myself and once from Iain Litchfield of Litchfield Imports fame who I would personally recommend you talk to.

Thats one thing I don't understand, how can it be a type uk (and it does appear to be) if it has been Euro imported.

How are they produced as they are specifically tuned to our roads? Dont really want a JDM, isn't that litchfields speciality?

Had a look at Ian Litchfields webby last week - a euro '05 sti with DCCD and tracker was about £23,500. I'm suspicious about how motorpoint can do it so cheap...if it was my money I'd think twice and at least talk to a specialist first.

Litchfields do Type UK as well as JDM (my new JDM arrives next month ;)).
As for the PPP being done in the original country (so Malta for the Motorpoint cars), that is what loads of people on here have been saying.
As I say, if I were you I would have a word with Iain, but watch out, that's what I did and I went from a second-hand Spec C to a brand new JDM car in a couple of test drives! :D

Heard lots of bad points about motorpoint.

We brought a peugeot 307 from motorpoint and had no problem at all.

I would check 1st but i think you will find that subaru will do what you need and there wont be any problems because they have to do the work by law now.

Just remember you are saving alot of money but you get the same money you saved in loss when you sell it.

I'm a very satisfied motorpoint customer. MY05 WRX bought in December. Received appropriate maltese documentation and car is now registered with IM for warranty. First service done with no trouble at a main dealer.

As far as PPP goes - will a dealer really turn down £1600, or more for an STI just because it's european? I'm sure they'll really want to turn down that profit.

if one, wouldn't know how , or would rarely use it, is it worth the extra grand

Thats a fair point about the dccd. Motorpoint do two type of sti's. One is called STI extreme for about a grand more, and the only noticeable difference I could see was the semi slick bridgestone tyres.(as per Subaru dealers spec) It might not have the dccd, I never noticed. Daz

MP impreza sti type uk do not come with DCCD, or the semi slick Bridgestones, this is optional & what they term as the sti extreme which costs more. Sort of answered my own question really, not looking like so much of a bargain now.

To get the 3 years warranty and ppp done it has to be registered with subaru uk. To do this you need motorpoint to send a copy of the original invoice (when they bought it) and the copy of the invoice when they sold it on!! and then it will have the three years warranty. As for selling it on??? does it really matter??these all lose a fair bit of money anyway so i cant see it losing £4000 more than a uk car??? who cares anyway when its out of warranty?? As long as the spec is the same do it!!!!

I bought a WRX from Motorpoint 14-months ago - no worries at all! I knew I would be upgrading it so the warranty wasn't an issue. Servicing at TSL Motorsport or main dealer not a problem. It saved me about £3,000. Go for it!

Now I've had an uprated suspension and handling pack fitted, the nervousness over bumps that blighted the handling before has completely gone, so I suspect DCCD will be getting a lot less use - though I'm still getting used to the car and have plenty more fiddling to do. So many toys... :)

I was speaking on Thursday with a very helpful chap from Litchfield. He was telling me that the euro imports are from Malta, but the cars have UK sticker's on them, the only difference being that the boat stops in Malta rather than UK.

I am guessing the cars from Motorpoint would be exactly the same.

Personally as the owner of a UK Spec, euro import Porsche, I never ever again buy an import. Hence our decision to come out of the car and back into a Scoobie.
