View Full Version : TESCO's... the best!!????
ash4bs 07 January 2005, 15:52 I have almost come to the end of the 1st year of insurance on my IMPREZA Type-R. I'm insured with TESCO and will be looking for a decent renewal quote. Are we all in agreement that TESCO's are best for all of us driving imports? :Suspiciou
Power Junkie 07 January 2005, 16:08 That is who I am with, for my V5 Type R
Darbo_wrx 07 January 2005, 21:06 is it true tesco's will only insure you with a tracker fitted????

Jamescsti 09 January 2005, 14:06 I'm driving an import as well and am with tesco's
They do require a tracker though i believe
jmk 09 January 2005, 15:56 Keep an eye on your excess. I used to be insured with Tesco and at renewal time my excess went up by approx £500 and the premium was quite a few hundred pounds more than getting a new quote through their web site - I hadn't made any claims / convictions.
I think they discount very heavily to get business and then screw existing customers to pay for these discounts.
Jonty 09 January 2005, 17:04 I know this might read a bit 'chalk and cheese-ish' given that I have a completely standard MY00 UK Turbo but I've just insured myself with Elephant who aren't Import or modification shy. They'll also mirror a NCB onto a second vehicle at no extra cost, and with a very easy website I was quite imprezzed(!)
I think you can click a maximum of '6' modification groups before you need to actually ring them to discuss. Worth a sniff at least. I was having a play given details of modified Scoobs before finding the one I wanted, which just happened to be completely stock.

chrispurvis100 10 January 2005, 14:53 Just got a quote from elephant.co.uk, came back as £1490! Thars with my folks on the policy aswell ( to get the price down a bit ) I'm paying £1675 with tescos at the moment without the folks on the policy. Tesco wanted another £110 to add them on!!!
My excess with tescos is £750, £250 with elephant. Think i'll be going with them next year.
Jonty 10 January 2005, 18:44 Chris, Hi.

Great stuff. What you might also find is the price will be a bit lower still if you leave your father off. Most policies can benefit from adding a female as another driver (wife, missus, mother...) but add another male and the price goes back up again.
Worth a fiddle with the web settings if you haven't already done so. :)

Bartop 15 January 2005, 13:27 my05 WRX / 42yrs / full NCB / No claims / Clean Licence - £510 with Norwich Union and only went up £60 for the year with PPP added..
ande 17 January 2005, 01:18 Now I have turned 25, hoped for cheaper insurance.
Tried Tesco - £1300. More than when I was 24! (Elephant - £1250 @ 24)
Tried Directline - £787.50. Nearly half!
Only problem is I have to have a Tracker fitted, which despite my job (Toad Engineer) I don't want to do! Why save £300 odd quid on the premium when you pay more than that for a Tracker and the "peace of mind" that comes with it!
I guess I will keep trying!
Ande.
