Thumbs up Is there a MPV like the Zafira GSI that is 4WD and Turbo charged?

I am keen on a Zafira due to practicality...reasonable speed and versatility of the seats that fold into the floor etc. However, after the 'fun' I had this winter with my FWD Rover 216Si I would like to invest in a 4WD when I can afford one. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advance.

Aaquil.

How about considering an Audi Allroader 4wd V6 twin turbo. They have the same engine as the previous S4, but don't run as much boost. I think approx 230bhp. I am sure these can be had for around 18-23k, and AMD always do tuning packages, that could have you seeing 320bhp, quite quickly.

Other options are:
Audi S4
Volvo V70R AWD
Scooby Forrester Turbo
Merc ML 320 (I know it's not turbo'd)

Other than that, you will be left with the Zafira Gsi, or one of the Galaxy/Sharan V6 models.

Hope this helps.

Volvo XC70 as well

Running the diesel turbo at the moment but I think that you're looking at a petrol one There's a 7-seat option & loads of space. Really comfortable too.

Subaru Forester Turbo may be an option is it a 7 seater? I would rather not get a big off roader thingy for a start too big and too expensive. Thanks for all the input guys.

Forester is only a 5 seater atm

Volvo XC70 is not a large off-roader but a V70 AWD with a few cm more travel in the suspension - but I guess the original bodyshell is quite large anyway!

Diesel is 40mpg+ at nat speed limits

What problems did you have in your FWD? Can't say I've ever found it difficult driving fwd in the winter, not like we really have harsh weather here requiring 4wd.

How many seats do you need?

7 = Audi Allroad 2.7TT
5 = Octavia 4x4turbo

Allroad was best combination I found, not cheap but 2.7TT will remap to 305bhp and is avail with third row of seats...

..but then I wanted a softroader type thing also...

The third row is rear facing... still leaves some boot space but not as big as espace etc... but then again is far nicer to drive than an espace...

I see that someones already mentioned the Mitsubishi RVR. The best model would be an N23WG Super SportsGear; its 4 wheel drive and has a very slightly detuned and TMIC'd Evo 4G63 engine in it doing about 220Bhp. Its the Daddy. The next RVR I import will be a Super SportsGear and Im keeping it. They cost next to f*ck-all btw; a nice Grade IV late 1994 model will cost about £700 tops in auction so it can be landed for £2,200; makes you think doesnt it?

The JDM version of our Spacerunner; the Chariot Resort Runner GT, comes with a similar driveline but more room and 230 BHP with peak torque at 2500RPM! That gives a power-density thats virtually as high as a Scooby 'Wagon... but a lot more torque and lower down too. Theyre worth sod-all as well; even the later ones. A 'Model Report' isnt necessary if youre prepared to chuff about (thats bound to draw some comments...) so I might be tempted by one of those too.

i looked at the allroad......prob with boot seats is they are rear facing and...in the boot!

ok for emergencey use but i wouldnt want my kids in with the luggage, facing the wrong way and the hassle of getting them in via the boot.

went for a 2.8v6 galaxy in the end......fast and all the toys for lots less.

The RVR is only 4 seats yes; but the longer wheelbase Chariot Resort Runner GT seats more. Im sure Ive had a 3 person rear bench on one though; at nearly 15 cubic metres there should be more room...

As well as the obvious impracticality, and the perceived vunerability; arent rear facing boot seats illegal?

nope.....audi and volvo have them as options.....cant imagine living with it though. Kids face the wrong way, cant get in apart from via the boot and they are sat with the luggage.

people carriers are good at carrying people! you can say what you like about them but seperate seats with 3 point belts has got to be better than bench seats......im not even keen on 3 kids on a back seat....lots of heads to crack together in a bash.

You could always go for that Espace that renault made. The one with the F1 engine in it from the (at the time) Williams F1 cars.

On reflection I think it only had 4 seats: http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame...m=1&carnum=444

You can get a 4wd Sharan, its the top spec Carat with 4wd gubbins, expensive and thirsty but it does the seven seat thing, they dont fold into the floor but they can be removed and it turns into a van, we have a 2wd diesel, to be brutally honest, I cant really see the point of fast people carriers, just slow down and you wont have a problem, our handles ok for what it is but it does tend to get a bit understeery if you push it, I am sure the 4wd one would grip better but the handling wont be really fantastic, it just has more grip from a standstill, cornering wise I would imagine its still not something to throw around, the up spec ones do have some kind of stability control but I would imagine it cuts in very early.

The V6 ones do about 18 to the gallon, they are 204 bhp I think.

Basically if you need seven seats none of them are going to be that fast or handle that well, too much of a compromise.

I got a Zafira Gsi and they are a great car, practical, fun and suprisingly quick. Fantastic engine imo.

btw I'll be selling mine shortly due to the arrival of a MY05 WRX just befor xmas - don't need the space anymore

ps here it is in the background with my other ride
