Default MY01 WRX shock absorber life?

How long ought the standard-fit shocks to last on a MY01 WRX (bugeye)? I have about 30k miles so far and have had both the backs and one front unit replaced (fortunately under warranty). Back units lasted about 4k and 20k miles, front one just replaced at 30k miles after failing the MoT...

These are the standard-fit units, not aftermarket ones.

This seems a bit excessive to me, but wanted to check if the rest of you have similar experiences? Or did I just get a dud batch?

I PX'd my MY02 WRX in at 34000 miles and the shocks hadn't been changed.

Firstly Mike wood said that the shocks last up to 70 000 km with standard springs.

aftermarket springs can serious reduce the life eg 20 000km

My Odometer is reading about 64,000 and I suspect I'm on originals springs/dampers... June 2002 Bugeye, which I've had since 44,000 (15 months)

I was contemplating upgrading the springs to Eibachs but you are saying this could finish the dampers off?

What dampers would be a good match for Eibachs...on a budget

search for KYB AGX adjustable.
Fairly inexpensive...

KYB make the factory struts... and are good quality
the AGX = has adjustable damping...
i know here in the states they can be found for $100 us ea. strut

should be pennies on your side of the pond!

Eibach make a set of dampers matched to their springs.

Also the koni inserts/shocks have gotten rave reviews.

I have a whiteline G4 suspension and it is fantastic.

Hope this helps. Mike Wood made me reconsider the aftermarket spring option.

But doesnt Prodrive sell after market springs to go with standard shocks ????

Sure that he means "unmatched" springs doesnt it?

Any heavier spring will accelerate the wear of the shock. The shock can cope with heavier springs but the life span is reduced.
