Default Type-R downpipe, 2 sensors, looking for EGT probe?

Hi,

My 97 Type-R has a downpipe with two sensors in it. One is Lambda, the other looks like it is an EGT probe? (in the bottom of the downpipe) Can anyone supply a new probe and mounting boss for fitting into a new downpipe?

I've heard of some people who have removed the EGT sensor all together, is this a good thing to do? It sounds odd given that the EGT is, on my car at least, part of the normal wiring loom and so on. What would be the result of removing the EGT sensor, I presume the ECU must be using it for something?!

thanks,
Matt

If it looks like a quite thin probe and is near the bottom bend of the downpipe, it is most likely a cat overheat sensor.

If you're de-catting it, you can leave that sensor out altogether, it's no longer required.
