View Full Version : Newbie in need of help !
gingamonkey 12 September 2004, 22:34 Hi all,
I've finally convinced myself to try and come along and watch the rally on the Saturday after years of saying to myself 'Oh... I'm gonna do that next year', but I haven't got a clue as to what tickets / car park I need to be looking at getting(bit late I know!).
I'll be coming across from Worcester and hoping to watch something in the Stage 8-13 bracket - any recommendations ?
Also, any idea what sort of time I'd need to set out to get there in time ?
Any help would be much appreciated - thanks :notworthy
rjlinney 13 September 2004, 09:37 I would order some tickets in advance through the walesrallygb site, and then pick them up from Cardiff.
You need to get to the stage 2 to 3 hours in advance.
tucker101uk 13 September 2004, 11:52 the traffic wont be too bad until you get quite close to the stage... the problem is parking, and depending on how late you get there, you will have to park further away from the stage. Then of course walk the rest of the way... so prepare for walking time!
Senior Marshal 13 September 2004, 15:10 The problem you have leaving it this late is that you'll need to collect your tickets from cardiff.... which on a good day is 1 hour from Worcs, but I would leave at least an hour and a half to account for traffic around cardiff etc.
Once you get your tickets you've gotta get up to the stages, so i would say your best bet is probably Margam (SS14) on the Saturday, as this will give you plenty of time to sort tickets in the morning and head up to the stage. Alternatively, go for Halfway (SS10) that being the latest of the 3 you want to see.
By far the best option would be to travel down to cardiff from Worcs on the friday afternoon and collect the tickets friday, then drive up to the stage and get in super early and sleep in the car. (Thats how i'd do it)
P.s. If your interested in getting to more rallies in the furture PM me, I run a motorclub from Worcester.

gingamonkey 13 September 2004, 19:07 Wow, thanks for all your help !
I think that the best option is going to be the Friday afternoon drive down. Is Halfway the best one to go for?
Also, probably sounds a bit daft to you guys, but how does it work? Are you more or less fixed on one stage, or do you have time to travel between stages once the cars have flown past? What will you guys be doing ?
Once again, thanks for all your help. Much appreciated by this poor little confused newbie ! :cuckoo:

Once you are on the stage you are on there. The only way to get into another stage would be to buy another ticket. And the when you get to the other stage you find you have a 45 min walk.
Crychan in my opinion is the best stage on the Saturday, I'm marshalling on it and have seen many offs and near offs there.
gingamonkey 13 September 2004, 20:27 Thought so. Bit of a silly question really ! Cheers matey.
I was thinking Crychan myself, so you've just backed me up - One more question, which car park would you guys recommend from H or I ?

Car Park H gets you to about three different corners on the stage.
Remember speccying there myself once, quite a good little section.
gingamonkey 13 September 2004, 23:10 Cool, thanks 'Trees'.
I'm all booked up now and ready to go!
Unfortunately, the missus has put her foot down with the 'it'll be too cold to camp/sleep in the car' routine, so I'm gonna pick up the tickets on Thursday and then we'll drive straight to the stage early Saturday morning.
Leaving roughly about 5 / 5.30am from Worcester should give us plenty of time with the stage starting around 9am shouldn't it ?
Thanks for all your help guys, I'll let you know how we get on.
Much appreciated ;)
Mk2_heaven 13 September 2004, 23:45 sleeping in the car is actually warmer than you think, when theres two of you in there . Last year i didnt really need sleeping bag as it was to hot, take her out for a meal and tell her how its happening lol

If you head down the A44 to Leominster and pick up the signs for Brecon, A4112 >> A438 >> A470 >> Brecon
Then pick up the A40 at Brecon, then north on the A340 at Llandovery, that will take you straight to the access to the car parks.
Should take you about 2 hours by my reckoning!
Enjoy!

Was planning to stay in Neath on Friday night and travelling up to Epynt early(!) on Saturday. I reckon it'll be 90 minutes to the stage. First car is 0930 so leave Neath 0700 leaving maybe an hour to find a spot.
Alternatively I could just sleep in the car.
Anyone got an opinion? (daft question)
RaptorUK 15 September 2004, 16:28 My Autoroute reckons 90 mins as well and I usually have it set so I have a bit of time in hand without speeding. I would leave Neath at 07:00 if I were you . . . but don't blame me if it all goes wrong.
I am doing similar things (not stopping in my car) . . . and will have some frantic drives between stages. I have an event pass and I also plan to do Margam on Sunday . . . so if all goes well it will be 9 stages for me.
Good luck to all . . .
cheers, Simon
