View Full Version : Margam2 Car Park M
rjlinney 08 September 2004, 15:18 Can someone tell me what I can expect, where I should go and what to look out for.
This is my first rally, and this is the only stage that I can get to this year , so any information on what I can expect would be very gratefully received!!
Will we be in pens or will we be able to move around the forest to some degree?
What sort of a view can I expect? (Close enough to take any pictures?)
I really didn't know which car park to go for - the choice seemed to be between M and N, although some seem to suggest O and then "walk up the hill" a bit(!)
Obviously having never been to a rally before I don't know what to expect or what's allowed (or possible!)
Any info would be great - getting excited now!
Cheers,
Richard
SPIKEdog 09 September 2004, 09:31 I'd help if I could find that map which said which car park was which. :Whatever_
rjlinney 09 September 2004, 09:50 The car park map for Sunday is at

phd 09 September 2004, 12:50 Car park M is ok. A short walk to the stage once parked up on top of the hill. A fair old drive from the off the main road/M4 though.
One location to go is by crossing the stage route on foot into a marked off area in the woods. From there you will briefly see the cars above you as they emerge from the forest, hear them pass behind you on the road you crossed, then see them pass in below/infront, through two 90 lefts, a tight left/right "S" comination then a long sweeping right hand bend before they round a left hand hairpin and descend into the grounds of Margam park. This part of the stage is a natural amphitheatre.
If you leave the marked area you will be in some rough terrain. You may improve your view a bit.
Alternatively you can follow the stage up the hill and try and see the upper section and the lower section.
In the upper section you could see the cars twice as they took outward and return routes through a cross-roads.
Lower section was ok last year..

SPIKEdog 10 September 2004, 09:13 Ah yes, PHD beat me to it. The section he described with the road coming down the hill with the S bends is my favourite area of Margam Park. You get to see quite a lot of the cars as they come down from behind, round a small hairpin, down a fast sweeping right bend, into a 90 degree left and then through the double hairpin S bit, finally going down into the park.
rjlinney 10 September 2004, 09:26 Thanks for this.
When you say a "marked off area" is this an area which spectators are officially allowed to use - or an our of bounds area?
This is my first rally, so I'm not up to speed on these things!
How easy (or legit) is it to cross the stage without getting chucked out my a marshall?
I'm assuming that lots of people will be heading for this area, so we'll be able to follow the crowd?

You should try and stay within the marked areas for your own safety and the safety of others. Marked areas are defined with marker tape on poles.
You should only cross the stage at a designated crossing point AND when a marshal indicates it is safe to do so. At Margam Park there are a number of designated crossing points, you can't miss them!
As you are new, I suggest you follow instructions given by the marshals and enjoy. You will no doubt observe other people doing their own thing, but notice how much additional risk they expose themselves to and avoid following in their footsteps.
A marshal cannot eject you from the stage, but if you place yourself in a dangerous position you may generate a situation where the local constabulary are called or, ultimately, the stage is cancelled. No-one wants to be responsible for cancelling a stage, so listen to the advice of the marshals is best.
Follow the crowd - yes, but not the individual explorers!
Hope this helps, enjoy

rjlinney 10 September 2004, 17:12 Pete,
Thanks!
It would be helpful if there was information like this on the RallyGB site so that newbies like me know what to expect when they arrive, and what they can and can't do.
Thanks again.

You're welcome. Also have read of an earlier thread like this one, lots of decent advice.
