View Full Version : Advice for a GB virgin!
chimparoo 04 September 2004, 10:45 Hi all,
This year will be my first trip to the GB event and i have some (probably dumb!) questions! I have a day pass for Sunday with upgrades for the SSS.
Firstly, what time realistically do you need to be on the stage for SS16 to get a decent spot. From memory this kicks off at 7:40. The planner recommends 45 minutes before the first runner but i guess thats the minimum? How much time would you allow to get parked etc (car park P)?
Also any advice for SS16/17 on the best viewing areas?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Martin
Iwan 04 September 2004, 13:10 For early morning stages i always get there the night before and park up then sleep in the car.
In the past i've turned up in the morning with a ticket and been turned away as the car park is already full. :(
I don't think that happens these days though. As a rule, i'd personally be standing in my chosen viewing spot 45 mins before the 1st car starts the stage. Bear in mind it can sometimes take half an hour to walk from where you're parked to where the stage is. I'd look to be getting to the car park at least 2 or 3 hours before the stage start, even then you'll find lots of people there already.
Nothing worse than arriving late and missing the front runners, or arriving and then having to stand behind a row of 6ft+ blokes who got there before you...
ddb85 04 September 2004, 14:04 get to any stage a good hour before it starts so you have planty of time to get into a good viewing position ready for the cars! :D
rallymad_homer 04 September 2004, 16:51 maybe a little more than an hour id say, i mean obiously its up to yourself but i personally like to have a little look around for the best viewing before i make myself comfortable for the stage. In 2002 people were in walters arena, sat down 3 hours before the first car so.. it goes from one extreme to the other. Id rather be 2hours early than 2 mins late tho !! ;)
Homer, not long now boys and girls !!!!!!!
DanCov 04 September 2004, 17:43 you can never be to early! its part of the charm of the event still being half asleep because you left your hotel at 4am to arrive early! being early also allows time for the obligatory Rally GB bacon sarnies!
CHIF 04 September 2004, 19:28 Can smell them already DanCov!
gareth_206 04 September 2004, 20:38 I was a rally GB Virgin 1 year. 2000 it was. I went up to ss4 rhondda, i missed the first 20 car. Then went to Halfway ss6, well tried i couldn't find it. Then tried to get to Sweet Lamb ss9, but i was told it was full. So i stayed in service, i went to the place where they were doing the interviews after the road section, got to about a metre away from the drivers, Awesome.
Senior Marshal 07 September 2004, 01:00 Forget the bacon sarnies.... its Rally Burgers you want, a Lamb Burger with plenty of Mint Jelly at 0730 in the morning is the best pick-me-up you'll ever find!!!!!!
Last year was a dissapointment on that front, only beefbugers on Trawscoed, and not a Burger Van in sight on Resolven and Margam!!!
(Paul, perhaps you could mention to the organisers to make sure that the Caterers all stock Lamb burgers and Mint sauce :D)
DanCov 07 September 2004, 12:38 lamb burgers and minty jelly lol :P are you the earl of windsor :) I cant stomach a beef burger at 7am. I think were gonna bring a disposable barbecue this year and cook a nice fry up for breakfast.
rallymad_homer 07 September 2004, 14:00 im with u on that one dan, cant beat sat round ur little stove/bbq with the nice wafting smell of bacon and sausages at silly o clock in the mornin !!

hotchy 07 September 2004, 16:17 Dont forget the Stella!
And the Bog Roll, A McSh*t will catch you out. Early burgars dont setle that well, especially with a long walk.
You dont want to be taking a Mcsh*t in the morning, early morning due can make the grass very slippy-the last thing you need is to have a double slider,(oh! sir) and do watch out for the pine needle's.They rub some-what on the scrotum.
Oh and another tip, watch out for the branches with pink bog roll, this is not natural to welsh trees. You would not want one of thease springing into your face as you try to gain a better veiwing spot, miandering your way threw the tree line.
DanCov 07 September 2004, 19:58 lol that post took the thread to a whole new level im staying in a swanky travelodge in Cardif ;)
