Hello hello hello.... what's going on 'ere then...????

My "Big hairy moth thing" isn't an entry - it's in the discussion thread.....???

However, my "Lily of the Valley", "Tasty, Tasty, very very Tasty" and "Diagonal Alley" pictures are entries - as they're in the Entries thread - yet you've not listed them????

Similarly, AndyC was simply showing me one of his butteryfly examples, and not entering it - whereas his 'Part Number' entry is nowhere to be seen????

Also - what's the voting method? 10 point system again, or something else - needs confirming.

Not getting at you Dan, just pointing out that there may be a slight problem with this voting thread.... Some further organisation and concentration required methinks... ;)

Cheers

Shades

May I ask which part of the guidelines my pics did not meet please?
They meet rules 1 & 2 which seems to be the main problem with the comp this time around.

Regards,

Grahame.

Rules:
1. No image will be greater than 800 pixels along its longest side.
2. Image overall will not exceed 120kb.
3. Image must have been taken within the competition period, which is at the discretion of ScoobyDoo555, the winner of the last round.
4. Each submitter can change their posted image at any time (using edit function).
5. Maximum of three (3) images per submitter, per competition.
6. Digital manipulation is permitted in order to correct technical issues such as dust or noise on the image. It is not permitted to add or remove elements of the image or to apply digital 'effects'.
7. Image must be hosted so that it appears correctly in the competition thread and must remain so for the period of the competition including voting. Any images that do not appear correctly won't poll may votes, obviously.
8. Image must be titled but not on the image itself. I.e. some bold text naming the image should be posted at the same time as the image itself. In addition, any details of the image itself should also be posted (this is a learning exercise after all). E.g. EXIF data or maybe just aperture, shutter speed, equipment used.
9. There will be no posts in the competition thread other than those for the posting of competition images. All discussion should be held in other threads.
10. The collective decision of the Scoobynet members who vote in the voting thread is final.
11. Images will meet the requirements of the ScoobyNet T&Cs
12. Winner gets to choose the theme for the next round.

OK then, I'll kick off with:

4 points - AndyC772 - 32 layers - Again, great lighting from Andy with an interesting subject. A kitchen knife perchance?

2 points - Jye - Fly Posters - Great composition creates a striking image

2 points - AndyC_772 - Part Number - The two lens trick gets a good sharp image on what is obviously a damn small subject. Yet again, well lit.

1 point - Burr - Stick Food - Good closeup shot which inspires thought as to what the heck it is!

1 point - ScoobyDoo555 - Bubbles - Composition, lighting and the fact that beer was involved!

Andy - Break that flimsy battery door off your 550EX or summut!

2 points - 32 layers - Andy 772
2 points - See the details - Angrynorth

Jye: Sun Through Cupola - 2 points. Nice capture of the rays of light coming through the ceiling; it's this detail, rather than the painting, that catches my eye.

scoobypreza: bricks - 2 points. A well-spotted candid observation and very much in the spirit of the topic for me.

MrShades: Diagonal Alley - 2 points. Nice abstract, demonstrates a good eye for creating a photo that's far from obvious using appropriate use of tools and DoF. Well 'seen'.

angrynorth: See the details - 4 points. A nice play on words while at the same time highlighting the detail of the screw and nosepiece. Clever idea and perfectly executed.

To make life easier: here (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=352939&page=1&pp=20) is a link to the competition entries. It would be nice to get at least as many votes as there are photos... :D

The Red Eye - Jye - 3points I really like the perspective and the contrast of the red bricks against the blue sky. I've got an image of someone spending forever trying to build the perfect cone.

Bubble ensuring it's round - papascooby- 3points This brings back memories of trying so hard to blow the perfect bubble as a child.
Who was blowing the bubbles or where you blowing bubbles with one hand and taking pictures with the other??

32 layers - Andy 772- 2points Love the lighting.

Mother natures detail 1 - Springbok 2point - Mother nature at her best. Great pic.

That was a great round .... got us all thinking I think.
Roll on round 11 :) :)

the loverly mrs was blowing the bubbles.

Mrs P's Windows or Pools 1

Andy 772 - 32 layers - 4 points - imo this photo is the essence of the competition subject matter, the red and yellow lighting (gel filters?) lead your eye over the detail of the grains in the steel and also shows it up superbly. I actually started counting the layers (rings?) on the knife :D

minor threat - The craters Aristotles and Eudoxus - 2 points I never really thought about photography like this before, the equipment and hobby aspect take photography to another planet, quite literally 

MrShades - Diagonal Alley -2 points.Agree with the nice abstract comment from Andy, made me wonder where it was shot (country) as the street looks like light coloured cobbles.

Angrynorth - See the details 2 points – Again good take on the subject matter, and cos Angry’s a monkey man ;)

Damn, no points left, other photos I particularly liked though were fIELd Of DrEaMs . . . - DJ Dunk, the kinda photo I’d take no problem ;) and Bubble ensuring it's round – papascooby, you can see the house in the bubble which is nice :) and ScoobyDoo555's Bubbles, which he will soon explain :D

All in all another 'interesting' comp....

Yes, they're gel filters held over the flash heads with rubber bands. I bought an inexpensive sample pack of Lee gels and just cut them to size. They've opened up all sorts of possibilities and in terms of 'good photos / £' they're by far the best bit of kit I own :)

Jye - The Red Eye = 1 point
I like the way it seems to be an infinite structure a sort of tower to the sky :)

Jye - Sun Through Cupola = 4 points
Captures the detail really well and presents them dramatically, I really like this shot!

AndyC - 32 Layers = 4 points
Another perfectly set up shot from Andy. Great details and lighting. Technically amazing.

ScoobyDoo555 - Bubbles = 1 point
Cool shot with a good example of the subject, I really want to know how it was done too :D

Once again some really good entries this time. I want to make special notice of the shots Edcase posted, which were really well set up, especially the eye-pods shot. Very nice! :D

Agree with Angry regardin Ed's shots, no real need to be mentioned as a top set of shots, and an example of what the <cough> D70 ;) is really capable of :D

:D :D :D :D

Better get thinking of a theme again then, hadn't I? ;) Thanks everyone!

I'm curious to know how the bubbles were done too. I know how I would do it, but it'd involve a powerful off-camera flash focused into a narrow beam with a coloured gel over it, and I suspect it's not really that complicated...

06 September 2004, 19:50
OK OK!!!! :D

It's actually very easy - here's what it looks like in the day time...

You can see the bubbles in this shot better -

On the camera - I set it to night mode, and hey presto! :D
