Puff The Magic Wagon!
21 August 2004, 21:51
At work we have a platform that is about 16*32ft & 20 inches high. However, in places its lower & the edges are bevelled. We are having it surrounded by partition and carpeted, so need to make sure its just a block with a flat top for carpeting purposes..
Oh & we need to cut a step that is 2 meters by .4 meters and .15 meters deep out of concrete, so as to create a step...
No problemo, chap doing some work next door on Monday, his gaffer will quote & he'll do the job. No. Chap never turned up, nor did gaffer until Wednesday & then he wasn't interested in the job nor could get someone quick enough (like this week).
OK - so Wednesday, phone our Poles - no worries James, 3 lads on Friday with your doors as well (outstanding item). Friday morning, no Poles, so phone.. ah - not got a cement mixer atm, but I sorted that from HSS. OK, its a bit late now, we'll be in 08:30 Saturday. I stress the importance of this job as its GOT to be done by Monday - yeah yeah..
I was there at 08:30 - No Poles. 09:45 - No Poles and I have 2 hours to get in all the gear needed to do the job, so sand, cement, Kango, Concrete Cutter, Spade, plywood for moldings, dust sheets, shovel, masks, eye-protectors etc etc - ALL into PTMW!!!
Back @ 10:45 to find that Poles had been/gone @ 10:30 and left a message saying back Monday  No phone call
Now its rock and roll time... BUT lovely petrol driven concrete cutter puts up so much dust etc that it sets the fire alarm off  Now can't use it, so its Kango time...
FECK that is hard work! Managed to blag the MD (not a physical type really!) to come in to help Kango whilst I set about doing the concreting (or preparing to).
However, received good news in the form that Poles are coming in @ 08:00 tomorrow to sort it out. In the meantime, we've prepared as much as we can although we've hardly touched in real terms the step. Kangos are great but concrete is harder still! Finished up @ 19:00, just got home & need a shower, absolutely ki-boshed, so supper/bed in time to get up to be there @ 08:00 for the Poles.
If they don't show, then its all-out to start concreting and finish digging that step out
Anyone experienced in concreting, kangoing maybe fancy couple of hundred squid if the Poles don't turn up? Central London (city). The job needs to be done as half dozen partition chaps turning up first thing Monday (& I don't frigging care that the concrete won't be set as long as its done!).
gah!!
