New next door neighbour moves in tomorrow, and he is going to tear up the old concrete & Tarmac driveway and bed it down ready for bricking eventually.
I asked his builder to quote for me too, thinking it might be cheaper than a separate job.
He's come back with a quote for £2500 to excavate to 200mm, and then add 100mm base material compacted, ready for brick paving (price doesn't include any actual brick paving)
My driveway is about 80sq. m, 50% grass, 50% tarmacced concrete.
This seems expensive, and I don't think I'm getting much if any discount. Any thoughts?

Where are you based as this will have a big effect on price!
For the SE sounds about right based on a couple of days work and removing all the crap. The skips alone will cost him 170quid + VAT a time.
The bricks/sand/etc to finish it off will cost you another 1k and some of your time.

its SE (Windsor), but he will be doing next door anyway, so will have JCB hire, lorries etc sorted for the day. Only real expense is more trips to the tip, plus more stone for filling. I've been told its a half day job, so either the guys have half a day off, or slot mine in and make a few bob. Or 2 grand by the sounds of it :/
Think I'll forget the idea of synchronising with the neighbour and just get separate quotes done.

But where do live as that seems to be the biggest facter. Our local dumping site charges 10quid to dump a ton of rubble or top soil or 20 for general rubbish :(

Your not to far from me so prices sound realistic but he is not doing you any favours. Remember that he is going to be charged per ton for dumping stuff which soon adds up.

I might have read it wrong, but I read that as only preparing the site.

its about 7m wide by 11.5m long. sqm, m2, whatever :)
It is preparing the site only. no bricks
reckon asking him to do it for £1800 cash is reasonable?
