View Full Version : MY02 - Anti Lift Kit question
marklemac 11 August 2004, 13:29 Hi,
I had the anti lift kit fitted to my MY02 STi several weeks ago.
Transformation is excellent.
One question. When you go over a sleeping policeman (not at crawling speed) you get a knock/bang noise from underneath the car - roughly in the direction of where the kit is fitted.
Is this the the kit hitting the chassis or something ?
Anything to be concerned about or is it normal ?
WRX_Rich 11 August 2004, 15:41 doesn't do it on mine... but I have to crawl most the time or I would rip of my front splitter
mutant_matt 14 August 2004, 07:58 The Anti-Lift Kit does lower the crash frame slightly so perhaps it's that? Try going slower? ;)
Matt :)
StickyMicky 14 August 2004, 10:17 did you refit the big metal washer??
marklemac 04 October 2004, 15:39 Big Metal Washer ?
Not sure what this is ?
Problem is still there. Even slight ramps give this noise now, and no I'm not doing excessive speeds Matt;)
The car is going into my local friendly garage on Wednesday to have some goodridge hoses fitted, so I will get them to have a good look underneath the car to check it around.
Probably going to Powerstation too on Saturday (they fitted the parts) so will get them to look too if the problem is still there.
p1doc 04 October 2004, 16:54 i would be interested re this as i am being tepted to get an antilift kit as well, does it make a big difference?

Jiggerypokery 06 October 2004, 09:31 Check both sides to see if they have been fitted on the correct side and the correct way up. If it's the Whiteline kit you have, the sticker should read TOP RIGHT and TOP LEFT. Don't ignore the TOP bit, as it is just possible to fit it upside down, but there will be a gap, which may be causing the knocking. Alternatively, the bolts may be working loose.
marklemac 06 October 2004, 09:53 Its in the garage as I type this, so fingers crossed its just some loose bolts, as this happended to the rear roll bar and caused very loud banging.
I'll report back later.
marklemac 07 October 2004, 20:16 Right.
Went into my local garage yesterday, and they had a good look at the car. They tightened up every bolt etc, and said that the 4 main rear bolts on the anti lift kit were very loose, so they did them.
Well, :) it hasn't sorted it.
Today the problem sounds worse.
Even going over roads with largish dips cause this crunching/crashing type noise (not a knocking noise).
Does the front end have drop links ?
Could this be perhaps the sound of failing drop links ?
Help !
All being well I'm going to Powerstation on Saturday anyway, so will get them to have a good look.
Worried :(
Jiggerypokery 08 October 2004, 09:06 I'm sure Powerstation will have fitted something like this before, but just incase they haven't, bring a colour print of the installation instructions with you (the PDF is on the web). I would guess that something is missing from your setup, possibly one of the spacers.
p1doc 08 October 2004, 23:51 powerstation fit them to the t25 as standard so they should know what they are doing hopefully

pugoetru 15 October 2004, 15:54 I just fitted an ALK today to my 92 leggy the main reason for doing it was an mot fail on the bushes and the ALK was cheaper than std bushes from subaru!
Oh and the fact that subaru dealer didn't have /couldn't get std ones!!!
my car does feel better on corners but no noises no real difference from before something must be wrong with yours now that i have done it i can say it is very easy to do but you could put the bushes on upside down quite easily although they are marked
I cant think of any other reason for noises
just to add the instructions for mine said to loosen the gearbox crossmember bolts may be worth checking them too.
gary
marklemac 15 October 2004, 17:51 OK - All fixed. Thought I'd give you an update.
Went to Powerstation last Saturday.
Rich stripped down the front anti roll bar and it turned out that the bush had dried up. He gave it a thorough lubricating, rebuilt it and its now perfect :)
No more cluncking.
Even over speed ramps ;)
Top Job Powerstation.
p1doc 16 October 2004, 11:32 i hope you got a free drive in their t25 to keep you happy, what do yoo find is the difference before and after alk?
martin
marklemac 16 October 2004, 11:41 I think that if I had a go in the T25, I be seriously gutted. Not in a bad way, but in the fact that its too much money for me, and would make mine look inferior. ;)
Anyhow, I had the ALK and front/rear roll bars all fitted at the same time. I don't get any body roll at all, feels much firmer on the road (in a good way). The ALK for me has made a big difference when accerating. The front end of the car now stays flat and firm, the nose doesn't lift in the air. Also noticable when accelerating in a bend.
In all, it was good money spent on the car. Very happy.
Now saving for a bigger turbo & Tek3 :D
p1doc 16 October 2004, 15:51 i take it the alk is now quiet as i had heard there is an increase in noise, vibration and harshness just a bit or a lot as i have a wife and daughter and do not like too much noise coming from the suspension
thanks martin
marklemac 17 October 2004, 08:16 The ALK was never noisy to start with. It was my assumption that is was. The clunking/knocking/crashing type noise that first started when going over speed bumps I thought was the ALK, but after having the anti roll bar bushes re-lubed, all is now fine :)
p1doc 17 October 2004, 21:54 good to hear
