Guys,
I've got a yamaha Fazer 600. Its been in the garage for a while and the battery is flat. Can I charge it using a car battery charger ? Also could I jump start it from a car ? I have a feeling its 6v for some reason and it doesnt say on the battery,

If it is 6v then no.. unless like my charger it has a switch for 12 and 6v and for bike or car..

If 12v then you can jump it off the car as I have done that with my Blade many times in the past.. just remove the positive as soon as it starts as two alternators causes too much current I believe (something that should be done when jump starting any vehicle)

You might want to just buy a Bike charger / conditioner.. not that expensive.

Unlikely to be 6v TBH. I tried charging my XV1600 battery with a car charger once. It wrecked it, and it cost 80 odd quid to replace :o I have bought an Optimate charger specifically to charge and maintain bike type batteries. You can keep the battery safely 'on charge' when not using the bike for extended periods. Very useful.

A Fazer (and any other modern bike) is 12v negative earth. Just like your car.

Yes, you can charge it with your car charger though to be safe you should disconnect the positive lead (has been known to fry rectifier diodes otherwise).

it is 12v. probably 12ah. bigger cc bikes mostly run 14ah.
it is also possible that you might fry the wiring/components.
i have a hayabusa powered caterham, and just last trip i was home, i jump started the battery from the scoob, and no problems. it is using all standard hayabusa components. but there is always a risk.
if you do decide to use your car charger, make sure it is low amp on the gauge when it starts charging, below 1. your car charger may have a bike/car changeover switch.
tks

ran it for 4 hours last night, it started off like it was not charging at all. Eventually started to take a charge and the amp climbed and I got it started last night.

Cheers
