View Full Version : SupeRally
SPIKEdog 20 July 2004, 16:41 Hi, can anyone explain to me what "SupeRally" is all about?
From what I've seen it allows teams to re-enter their cars on the following day if they retire.
I did read a while ago that they were considering awarding points for each day, but as far as Im aware, this is not the case for this year.
I can see the benefits for the spectators, but if teams cannot earn any points if they re-enter, will they even bother?
West Glam Racer 20 July 2004, 17:15 There could be a few gains out of it. Based on that that they don't score points, if re-entered:
1) Valuable testing experience for team, menaing that they could tweak the car up more and pay more attention to the cars settings ready for next year!
2) If the routes do not alter for the following year, they could tweak the pacenotes etc!
3) As there is big sponsoship involved its more than likely if they can run the car they should as its big bucks at the end of the day!
:)

tucker101uk 21 July 2004, 09:21 Superally is the new points system which is likely to be implemented in all rallies for next season. It is much more confusing in my opinion, and as mentioned below, removes the 'endurance' aspect of the rally...
From the WRC website:
"In January the WRC Commission – a body of manufacturers and event organisers, which decides rules for the World Council to approve – chose to adopt a SupeRally system, as used in Australian rallying.
This uses a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale for each leg of a rally, rather than the full event, effectively making the WRC a 48-round championship over 16 weekends. The aim is to help manufacturers gain more exposure, by allowing them to repair cars (within a 45-minute period) and re-enter a rally if they retire from a leg.
The downside, say purists, is that the endurance nature of rallying is lost, and the system could confuse casual spectators if a slower driver ends up with more points than the ‘winner’.
WRC Commission president Sekhar Mehta insists that SupeRally has been passed and is unlikely to change, so teams and drivers should accept it, but you can imagine that this debate will run and run – especially when the championship gets really close and every point counts…"
Also - @ WGR FYI :)
1. The Superally system is being trialled at the moment, that is why no points are being scored. However, when the system is fully implemented, points will come from this system, and not the current.
2. Pacenotes are ALWAYS made on the pre stage recces. This is because the stage varies so much year to year, even if the actual track is the same. There may be potholes, different corners which can be taken faster/slower, water splashes that weren't there before etc.
