View Full Version : Type R insurance
talizman 19 July 2004, 13:38 Who is your Type R insured with?
I've been getting quotes on a V6 Ltd and they are astronomical!
I currently pay £726 F.C. for a WR Sport RB5. I'm 27 with full NCD.
The BEST price I've had so far for a Type R is £1300!!
Surely there must be better prices than that to be had?????
The ironic thing is, I can get insured on a P1 for £796.
Where is the sense in that?
nescoob1 19 July 2004, 15:11 I'm insured with direct line, I'm 28 with full NCD and pay £980.00. This is for a 98 V4 type r.
Hope that helps.

Bloody hell, I can't get near that, plus they are demanding a tracker.
nescoob1 19 July 2004, 15:46 Yep mine needed a tracker as well.
talizman 19 July 2004, 15:56 Direct Line -
£1296.75
You must have a well cheap post code nescoob!
You tried Tesco, they seem reasonable to me.
Ive had 2 quotes from them, not for a Type R mind you:-
Im 24, 5 years NCB.
MY02 WRX with tracker, £800
MY02 WRX STI (uk model ) non prodrive £1040.
Worth trying them i recon.
richiewong 19 July 2004, 16:22 Sti5 Type R, 29 with 5 years NCD.
£1062 with Admiral
talizman 19 July 2004, 16:26 Tescos were over £1300.
The annoying thing is that I can insure a P1 for £796, but can't insure a Type R for under £1300!!!
They are the same blooming car!!!
Just got of the phone to Tesco to cover a STI V TYPE R LTD No extra for exhaust and a quote of £480 with £400 excess. I took it.
talizman 19 July 2004, 18:57 You must be an old fart bob! :D
simb 2 20 July 2004, 19:05 What is Admiral and Direct line like on mods then??

If a 34 year old can get insured for just under a grand, then £1300 at 27 probably isn't that bad......
Think I'll just need to get a P1 for £796
Bats-Wrx 20 July 2004, 21:28 I pay £780 for MY98 Sti Type R with L&V :D
I thought L&V didn't insure imports.
talizman 20 July 2004, 21:31 I thought L&V didn't insure imports.
Nope, they always have.
There has been dubiety over whether they insure Type R's and some folk have been told they cannot quote/cover on them, but this is simply because they list it on their system as a "2 door STi" and they don't recognise the term "Type R".
Dougster 20 July 2004, 22:28 What kind of Type R?
You were spotted in Hyndland Honda!! ;)

Really? :)
By Diane? ;)
Bats-Wrx 20 July 2004, 22:40 Just looked at the L&V site it says the following
You are the owner, main user and registered keeper of the vehicle
You and any other driver are under 80 years of age
You are resident in the UK
You or any other drivers of your vehicle have not been banned from driving in the last 5 years for any reason except for a single speeding offence
Your vehicle is classed as a private car (not a van, Pickup or Minibus) and is registered and normally driven in the UK
Your vehicle has been manufactured for the UK market, e.g. it is not a Japanese import
Your vehicle does not have any performance enhancing modifications.
talizman 20 July 2004, 22:43 All bollocks, cos the main appeal of LV is that they don't charge extra for modifications, as thousands of ScoobyNetters will tell you, so I'd take their terms and conditions with a pinch of salt! ;)
just looked on the website they dont list any 2-doors. the only sti's they list are UK spec . As far as getting a qoute on line for a type r thats a no-no. They might do it over the phone has anyone got insured from them recently. not a renewal
LV will insure a type R if you are already a customer and phone them up.
Willy
richiewong 21 July 2004, 17:47 Got my renewal this morning from Admiral
£821 fully comp, accident plan cover:confused: and car hire
With the last 2 options it would have been about £780.
Probably go up a bit when I give them my mods and get my NCB protected:rolleyes:
MISS SCOOBY STI 22 July 2004, 01:15 L&v definately dont insure Scooby Type R's for new customers.
My insurance was due for renewal on friday, and phoned every possible insurance company for best quote!!
Was with tesco's @ £1500 odd, told them SP30 and engine mods........up to £1900 odd :eek::eek::eek:
Did try L&V, and they do insure imports but they didn't have a STI Type R on their list - only a 2-door WRX
Best quote was with Privilege :D
STI Type R v4, SP30, 2 years NCB, engine mods ( :D ) = £1199.
Went with Privilege, cos was by far the best :)
gravelexpress 22 July 2004, 08:55 Yes new quote for a 99 sti type R in May this year with L&V.
On the "old" L&V website - 2 door WRX Sti was listed.
Bing_2004 27 July 2004, 21:49 Give A-Plan a try. They are very good with Jap imports.
talizman 27 July 2004, 21:52 Not to worry, I didn't buy the Type R in question.....
Think I'm probably going to settle for a P1 instead.... :(
