Here is my summer project, which as usual is just finished now that summer seems to have ended!! Just another coat of Varnish and I can move my garden furniture into the centre of the lighting circle.

sonicsbro, very nice........is that decking below the damp course?

Just about to do this myself and the height I want it at is above the DPC which I presume will cause problems even if I leave a small gap between the decking and the wall?

Nick no problems with decking above the dpc m8 its not like bridging the dpc with say a path,as the decking its, self is unable to bridge the damp proof course with it been timber, but if you are concerned about this like you said leave a10mm gap

Ok thanks briggo, I've read about leaving a gap but thought that the rain might splash up against the wall but i'll give it a go anyway.

Thanks Nick, The decking is just below the DPC, and I got 3 tonnes of slate chippings around the sides of the house that are about 6" delow DPC...just to be on the safe side...

What spacing gap did you use on the deck boards?

I used a medium sized nail space, about 4mm

Cheers, mj. It was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it!

You could check out the high end stuff here. Not cheap, but would wont splinter, wont rot, wont need staining and doesn't get slippy in the wet.
