Our bathroom is in need of a major revamp. Want to replace the shower, bath, toilet & sink then possibly re-tile & tile the floor.

Anyone have any ideas on how to do this without spending a fortune ? Buy the units then get someone to fit them ?

Any advice appreciated.

I have just started re-fitting and decorating our bathroom.
replaced the bath, toilet and sink with a set from B&Q, at £300, pure white and pretty modern. easy to do, as it basically a straight swap. Gets tricky and costly if you are fitting in different places etc.

Got the tiles for the wall and floor from Tiles+, its a trade centre in the Midlands, cost me £100 for the lot and about £20 for tile adhesive and grout.
Dont get tiles from named shops, go to trade places, you get some great bargains.

Cabinet and accessories will be from Ikea, prob be able to get all that for about £75 ish, at the cheapest.

Cheap if fitting yourself, around £500 upwards which is a good price for basically a new bathroom.

getting someone to do all the work for you, well you would prob pay £250 + just for the labour.

Good Luck.

Thanks mgg.
I really am pretty useless at DIY & so might give it a go but (through experience) I usually balls it up & then have to get someone in to do it all !

Had mine done a couple of months ago

Suite 350
taps 100
shower 100
radiator 100
tiles 100

labour 920
'parts' 180

Total 1850.

I was told that was cheap.

If you need anymore work done send me a pm I will charge 30% less on labour and still make a dam good profit.

My recently retired dad is now a bathroom fitter!!
He currently charges £80 per day and could refit your bathroom in less than a week.
He has already done about 10 bathrooms since he retired. He also converted my understairs cupboard into a toilet and sink including all plumbing work, tiling etc. in less that a week.

So where are you based, if it's anywhere near the West Coast of Scotland he may be able to help, but I doubt he will travel for work ( being retired and all that)

Hi Mate - great offer but I am in deepest darkest Surrey (Woking)
But thats exactly what I am after - someone maybe retired who doesn't charge the earth for fitting.

I got a steel bath, sink, pedestal, wc and all taps and connectors for £250 from Focus.

do the tiling yourself - it's peice of cake, but I'd invest in a good tile cutter while you're at it, but these aren't expensive.

the cost jumps up if you're wanting to change the layout around, modifying drainage isn't all that cheap, and might need to take into account boxing drainage runs out.

I reckon the cheapest suite at the mo is from Plumb Center £150 + vat inc all taps and fittings.
Might be worth a look.

I should have mentioned that included taking the old tiles off re-plastering 2 walls and re tiling the whole bathroom, and tiling the floor.

In total it took 12 days so about £80 a day
