View Full Version : Help! Info reqd about Epynt stages.
T2000PPP 13 July 2004, 10:51 After going to Rheola a couple of times, this year ive bought Epynt tickets having no idea where it is.
So im after as much info as i can get.All i know is its mid wales somewhere but its not listed in my road atlas index.
Thanks for any help.See you all there,if i can find it.
Jonnip74 13 July 2004, 13:02 Hello!
Epynt is on the A40 on the Llandovery side of Sennybridge. From Brecon (home of the Brecon Jazz festival!) head for Llandovery, when you get to a very long dual carridge way, halfway (hehe) down you will see a junction on your right, follow the road past the church and up the hill and your there! Nice!!!!
I can forward you on a map if you want one!
Cheers and Enjoy!

I dont think thats where the "Epynt" stage is located - thats where the "Halfway" stage is located instead. The "Epynt" stage - SS9 and SS12 will more likely be reached from a more Northerly point though I dont know the road routes yet.

West Glam Racer 13 July 2004, 19:11 Would you know if the rallycars are running via Dixies corner, on the tarmac sections?
RallyMarshal 13 July 2004, 20:03 I havent seen the stage plans but thats part of the "Halfway" stage usually. There has been a gravel road built to replace the tarmac road from that point across the jumps so Im guessing theyre going to try to use that road - thus avoiding devils and deers on the tarmac road.
Paul..
T2000PPP 13 July 2004, 20:11 Yes its SS9 andSS12 im interested in.Does anyone Know when the road routes will become available?
Jonnip74 14 July 2004, 08:32 Paul,
I can certainly say that this is the entry to epynt. I'm a Brecon lad and follow all the local rallies through Epynt and Halfay. Halfway is another 10 miles further towards llandovery, and the entrance to the halfway stage is straight onto the forestry road, but Epynt has tarmac all the way to the stage. There are other entries onto the Epynt stages, but this is by far the easiest.....
West Glam Racer 14 July 2004, 13:33 Yep agree with you on that Jonnip 74......
About 2 years ago I had to enter the area Via Garth and into the forest bit to get to the Halfway stage so spectate at dixies, and going thru that bit of forestry which was a fair drive and 10" of mud before reaching tarmac there!! :(
RallyMarshal 14 July 2004, 14:07 Jonnip..
Im 99% certain that thats not going to be the stage entry for the "Epynt" stage. The "Epynt" forest stage is located to the North of Dixies corner whilst the dual carriageway is located to the south of Dixies and the "Halfway" stage cuts across the ranges past Dixies so there would be no way across the stage.
Paul..
West Glam Racer 14 July 2004, 14:43 Does it mean that access to Eppynt Stage is either from Tirabad or Garth?????
rallymad_homer 14 July 2004, 21:40 WGR,
have been looking into this and have cracked it. The entrance to the car park (E i think it is, cant remember) is on the B4519 heading south from Garth. the entrance to the CP is a wee track/road off to the right as u drive down from garth, its about 4km from garth itself and looks quite easy to find(where have i heard that before !!! ) you can see it quite clearly on www.multimap.com, go to garth and just follow the road down and u'll find it no probs.
Hope that helps mate.

rallymad_homer 14 July 2004, 21:42 here is the map itself mate :-

Thanks Homer!
After Garth I drove thru the forest bit in my XR2i, as the fog came down very quickly. We must have drove thru about 4 miles of forestry and up this steep forest track! It was a bad drive thru!
Again Thanks

Hiya m8,
Yep thats the track spot on mate, good work there!
As it was in the traditional November slot it was pi55ing down with rain and the mud was really deep! Basically we entered from Garth to get to dixies on the Halfway stage. Anyway we reached the paying point and from what I can remember it led onto a forestry track and then descended down hill and back up again, where some parts were quite rocky. We then reached the tarmac roads which passed the rifle ranges and also passing the Mynydd Eppynt German village which was on the left had side but some distance away! Eventually we got to the speccy parking area and some guy who was in front of us found later had to pull over as he had incurred a punctured oil sump, from those rocks! Anyway after we parked up, we got the stove out and treated ourselves to a well deserved bacon butty! :) Happy Days!
I had the forestry track route information off the official 2002 speccy programme, if thats any help. As the blue arrows on it indicate the route through the forest and onto the tarmac parking area nr dixies!
The way out was easier as once the 2 runs of Halfway were clear all speccys were told to exit onto the south rd leading to the A40 at Llywel between Brecon and Llandovery! In the process Gronholms wrapped up Pug was on a trailer stationary in the traffic and I managed to get a photo of it! :)
In that forest bit we were a fair way away from the stage, so there were no speccy areas there at all! There was ample room in some areas to drive but it got very slippy so we could have easily gone into some log piles!
Fair play buddy, that website is brilliant. The clarity of the maps is awesome!
Thanks for that, thats great!
Cheers
WGR
