At the beginning of June, I had my P1 stolen, at knifepoint, by an eight strong gang of masked, mindless thugs, who threatened to stab me if I didn't hand over the keys and immobiliser remote. My beloved P1 was recovered, four hours later, after a (104mph) chase which involved an undercover Honda type R, a Vectra V6 and the police helicopter. Despite a quote in this months Top Gear magazine that "Six P1's have been stolen and all recovered within an hour without any damage" Well, my Scuby must have been the seventh!!! It took four hours to recover it, involved undercover cars and a helicopter and had £3500 worth of damage done. Know I've got to go to further expense and have a 'remote' immobilisor fitted, so that, next time, I can bring the P1 to a halt, even if I am running in the opposite direction. By the way, the guy who the old bill caught driving my P1 is still 'on remand' in Strangeways pending trial. He claimed he found the car with the keys in the ignition!!! To cap it all, the gang went back and tried to re steal the P1 out of the police secure compound the following night. Just goes to prove how popular P1's are!! Thank goodness for TrackStar......

I've got a non-Clifford alarm. Does anyone know of any anti car-jacking systems that don't need a Clifford system installed? Or can BlackJax be linked in with other alarms?

When the engine is running, if the driver's door is opened and then closed, the next time you press the brake pedal, an LED on the dash is lit up and you have 15 seconds to press the "secret" (concealed) button. If you don't press it then the car cuts out, is immobilised and a siren sounds for 15 mins. If you attempt to stop the alarm with the fob, that's another 15 mins and so on....

I know someone with this system and am interested in getting one....

Sounds a bit like the BlackJax, but it ain't. Could be a very, very old generation prior to the coded plainview valet switch days.

Please be careful when discussing security arrangements in an open forum. Car Security still works through obscurity to a large extent.

As Nick says, the Clifford BlackJax system is available as a stand-alone system, so it can complement anyone's existing security (even if they haven't got any) if an entire Concept 500/600 system which incorporates it as standard isn't necessary. It's unfortunate that car crime has come to the point where the scumbags have realised it's easier to ask you for your keys than to spend time stealing the car 'properly'. I anticipated this a number of years ago and seemed to be the only installer to be promoting the earlier version of BlackJax. Now that people have been buying C500's and 600's, they can't imagine ever being without such an anti-hijacking system. Never mind location devices, your car will be completely immobile in the middle of the road not far away which any old bobby on the beat will have no problem locating, so it could save a hell of a lot of damage, wear and tear to your pride and joy, and possibly some innocent people's lives who got in the way whilst the scumbags were being chased. All of which your insurer would be liable for.
