Err - I wasn't meeting the directors! I think I said that Chiark's post had been brought to their attention & there was a meeting going on & it was going to be discussed. Or that's what I should've said/implied http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

My point is that the additional person is going to be no use in terms of knowing if the car has been stolen. If on holiday, even if I am contactable, I'll have real trouble contacting the police and sorting everything out.
Tried one of the companies so far and got a 'well get back to you' response - sounds like Big Brother http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Must admit, I like the idea one of the companies had originally (Skamp?) - rather than all this try to contact by phone, just enable the GSM link and ask the driver for a password - 3 failures and the car gets shut down (a la Clifford's Blackjax).....

Puff,
Did you receive my email I sent you the other evening, regarding fitting Navtrak to my car?
Cheers,
Mark.

The "official" line on calling you in the event of your alarm going off...
The main reason that they will not report your scoob moving - aledgedly unauthorised - to the police is the fear of false alarms.
Should the police be plagued by umpteen call-outs to people forgetting to place the dallas key correctly, then they will quickly loose faith in the system & refuse to co-operate with Navtrak. Therefore, Navtrak have to promise the police that they will ascertain whether the vehicle is genuinely stolen (with a crime number) before they will work with them. Obviously, Navtrak must retain a good working relationship with the police in order to have a product to sell.
The same goes for the other systems available as well & in this day of stretched resources of police forces, I think its a sensible & reasoned approach. My wife has recently lost all her wedding rings and not long before, 2 mobile phones - through complete absent-mindedness http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif . To imagine that she would remember a Dallas key every time is almost beyond comprehension http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Don't want Cambridgeshire's finest chasing my wife to Tescos http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif
Navtrak are aware of the potential problem & are looking at ways to resolve it.
I know that this won't satisfy everyone, but that is the current situation & they are searching for alternates.

Small update to Chiark's original complaint.
The matter has been discussed in several meetings and an answer/reaction is still being considered. I would guess that the powers-that-be are not happy and I am sure that the correct solution will be found & we will be informed.
Also, I'm only a scooby enthusiast working on behalf of a Navtrak dealer & although I have contacts, I'm not on the inside track & can only report the official [Navtrak] company line. I don't get to go to meetings with directors! As if http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif
However, keep asking me questions & I'll do my best to answer them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
