View Full Version : ticket grief (again)
Portia 11 July 2004, 20:36 2002. Tickets not sent out in time. Had to go to City Hall to collect them in person - well out of our way. Did get 12 copies of the programme between three of us, tho'.
2003. Wodge of tickets arrive in plenty of time. Realise, tho', that while they've sent grandstand upgrades for the Bay super special, they've not sent the field tickets needed with them.
2004. Book weekend tickets ok. But when I try to book Thursday, the shopping cart shows field tickets for 10am (excuse me?) with grandstand upgrades for... the Sunday. And no, it wasn't my mistake - I tried it three times and got the same result.
If the grandstand's sold out, why not say so? And what's the deal with the 10am thing?
Sigh
West Glam Racer 12 July 2004, 18:45 Yep know what you mean. I went to by some tickets at the ticket office outside the City Hall. Basically turned up on opening time 10am and there was no-one there until 10.30am, and basically none of the tills etc were set up. Everything should be organised if they are charging those prices.
And with the 10am thing you mentioned......I think they just do that on purpose just to make themselves look important and confuse everything!
matspen 18 July 2004, 15:59 ive been to rally gb fore 7 years the first 2 were free so in 5 years its gon up from 0 to 99 pounds whats going in this is stupid to stand on a mountain we must be the only country that chargs ?are the fia just getting greedy
RallyMarshal 18 July 2004, 16:08 Mat - the move from not charging per spectator (just charging for car parking) to charging per spectator at forest stages was made when the event stopped using the "Sunday Special Stages" which were charged per spectator. The event costs a lot of money to host - all of which is self funding. Therefore the event has been charging for individual spectator tickets for the last 5 or so years since it lost the revenue from the Sunday stages. Effectively the Sunday stage revenue used to subsidise the forest stages and obviously now doesnt. I think that every country charges for tickets - some more than others it must be said - but each event has its own cost structure and every event has different ways of generating its income - some are government funded, some fully sponsored etc....

West Glam Racer 18 July 2004, 16:33 Hi,
I agree that the cost of tickets is very high and that the way in which they price the tickets should be reviewed! Its about value for money at the end of the day!
Firstly the rally is a good event and has an economic boost to this area, but the only disappointing thing about it is that if you pay out tickets for Sat or Sun, its usually more than likey that some drivers may have incurred problems or retired etc......therefore for the people who have paid out the current prices they have not had value for money! e.g...the prices should be dropped as the event go's on, as some events which are not related to motorsport use that type of system!
Secondly I agree with the system which was mentioned before where rally drivers can re-use thier car if they have reitred from previous day. If that is the case then I don't have a problem with keeping the same price!
Its becoming an expensive buisiness! Whoever decides on the prices must realise that in the South Wales Area alone that the further away from Cardiff you are, e.g up the valleys and further West towards Swansea that there aern't massive salary's and pay's as compared to Cardiff! Imagine a family of 4-5 was going to embark on buying tickets for a full weekend action of rallying, they just would not be able to afford it down this area, plus the fuel and other things!
I am not moaning and apprecite that the rally is in South Wales and have always watched the event, but those are my current views! And its not that the prices will drop, but will increase and thats when crowds will start dropping off!
Regards
WGR
WE WERE AT CYPRUS THIS YEAR AND OUT OF THE 6 STAGES WE WENT TO, PLUS SHAKEDOWN WE WERE ONLY CHARGED ONE CYPRIOT POUND EACH (ABOUT £1.15) AND THIS WAS ONLY ONCE BECAUSE THEY PUT YOU ON A BUS TO GO UP A PRIVATE ROAD. BUT THIS ASIDE WERE STILL GOING TO OUR HOME EVENT. TWO HUNDRED POUND MAY BE EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT!

The system is called SuperRally and will be used on WRGB to allow entrants to fix their issues and renter the rally on the 2nd and/or 3rd leg of the event.

tucker101uk 19 July 2004, 09:33 IMHO
OK... but there were several hundred other people (including me!!!) who didnt make a mistake and had a really good rally. I know i have said this before, and the WRGB does sound expensive, but in actual fact it isnt that bad...
If you compare it to an F1 ticket, which is about 70 pounds for the GP on sunday - 3 hours racing at the max... this is £23.30 per hour.
Now a three day rally is about 21 hours of action ( service area, and stages) over the 3 days - for 100 pounds - which works out at £4.76 per hour - astonishing eh?
So how much more expensive is it really?
It may be more expensive than cyprus - and it may be more expensive than Germany. But this is rip off Britain, so hey ho! roll with it!
I'm still gonna go.
Chris L 19 July 2004, 11:34 Well I could (and did) have a 3 day ticket for the British grand Prix that cost me £80, so it's not as bad as you think. There was a full race programme on both Saturday and Sunday, so it does also represent good value. But I do get your point.

Yep thats a shame......Also the times between each stage are short not giving speccys a chance to walk back to the car, then drive to the next stage including traffic and then parking up at the next and then walking to the stage! The time adds up and end up rushing around!
