View Full Version : Improving garden/yard security

My mum lives in an end terrace, with an alley along the right hand side of the house and also around the back.

Little oiks (probably just bored) have decided to start climbing over the wall and leaving footprints in her small flower bed, moving plant pots into the alley etc. and leaving the gate open.

There is a small outhouse where she could store her wheely bin, so if we bolted the gate it would make it less "convenient" for them to come into her yard for a dare.

What would you recommend to secure the gate, or the area in general? She already has a floodlight with PIR.

Cheers!

Saw a good and cheap idea last week, Carpet gripper rod along the top of a fence. :) May make them think twice

I was thinking razor wire etc. but in today's world I'm worried that we'd be liable if someone injured themselves whilst trying to climb over the top of the wall.

Carpet gripper is a good idea, a rotti would be slightly higher maintenance :D

Anti Intruder paint should stop them - £7.49 a litre from screwfix.

Cheers guys.

Fitted a lock over the weekend, will see if that stops them in the short term otherwise I will get the anti-vandal paint. Failing that we will move onto the spikes!

The council are hopefully going to fit lockable gates at the alley entrance within the next few months.

lie in wait with a big torch and a baseball bat - should be enough to make them sh!t their pants.

IMHO messaih's suggestion would have a great impact if it's just little oiks... however if it's slightly bigger oiks it may lead to repurcussions

Would be fun tho :D:D

put gravel or shingle down - might make them think twice if they're going to make a bit of noise.
