My new car has a sigma sg30 alarm fitted in 97 when the car was new. However when trying to get a replacement certificate (only had a copy from previous owner)my local security installers said i would have to have it upgraded for £140, which i presume includes one of them daft second key things?
This was because after 2 years thatcham no longer approve this alarm.

Are they right, or are they talking excrement in order to make a sale????

ABIT OF BOTH BY THE LOOKS OF IT. IN 98THATCHAM WENT FROM CAT 1 ISSUE 1 TO CAT 1 ISSUE 2 THIS IS WHY YOUR ALARM IS NO LONGER ON THE LIST.IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO UPGRADE OR ADD ANYTHING TO AN ISSUE 1 TO MAKE IT ISSUE 2,THEY ALL HAD TO BE RE'EVALUATED BY THATCHAM THEMSELVES EVEN THOUGH IN SOME CASES IT WAS ONLY MINOR THINGS LIKE AN ARM OR DISARM CHIRP.
THE ONLY WAY TO GET SOME SORT OF CERTIFICATE FIND A VSIB APPROVED DEALER AND GET THEM TO INSPECT YOUR ALARM ASSSUMING IT WAS FITTED PROFFESIONALY IN THE FIRST PLACE THEY WILL ISSUE ONE STATEING THE ALARM IS FITTED AND WORKING PRPOERLY.
YOUR INSURANCE SHOULD ACCEPT THIS AS PROOF .

Thanks rutt,

I'm thinking of going for a completely new one, with some added features like a turbo timer type option and remote start etc.

It was installed by a VSIB, and the advice i got was from a VSIB installer. They said it needed an extra circuit for the immobiliser, but he didn't even reference any paperwork, just told me off the top of his head, which made me presume he was talking cr@p(either that or he is really good at his job!!!!)

Phil

Have just had a Clifford Concept 600 with all the bells & whistles (remote start, turbo timer, Intellivoice, Omni sensor, PC interface etc). http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif

Always had Clifford but this Concept 600 is the nuts.

Just some info for reference.

PHILL BY ALL MEANS GO FOR THE CLIFFORD BUT TELL YOUR INSURANCE ABOUT REMOTE START.
IT IS NOT EVALUATED BY THATCHAM AND THEY COULD KICK UP A STINK.(MAKES THE IMMOBILISER EASIER TO BYPASS).
