The double pole switch on my shower has KAput.. In the process of replacing it I find that the 45amp cable has been jointed using 30a boxes.. Now I know this is wrong.. But looking at the installation it's one hell of a job for this cable to be replaced with a single piece.. Is there any 'professional' way to joint a cable of this size?

ideally dont do it..

What ever method you use.. The insulation must be protected.. cant remember the term / word..

but You cant have the red and black cables visible.. so If you use a big junction box.. then the outer pvc insulation must extend within the box a little..

Small adaptable box with suitable glands / grommets around the cable with a fook off connector inside would do it.. make sure you secure the cables though.

"proffesional" would be a resin kit, "semi profesional" would be 50A connector strip in a double surface socket box with blank faceplate, "complete bodge" - big pair of pliers and some sellotape :D

You'll get the bits from most wholesalers , Newey and Eyre do the large connector strip.

Some pics he sent me a while ago.. one pic showing a single core.. and a large CT.. pic was taken to show the poor standard of wiring which he wanted changing before it got commisioned.
