Has anybody successfully replaced the airbag wheel in a UK Impreza (mine is a 98) with a smaller non-airbag equivalent?
If so, lots of tedious questions:
Where did you get the wheel from? Did your Subaru dealer fit it? How much all in? What did your insurance company say?
Thanks,
Andy

I've now got a MY00, and am still interested in doing this. No replies first time around; what about now?!?

Andy,
Halfords sell various Momo steering wheels and will remove your old airbag wheel and install the new one. Rough guide to price is approx £150 for a wheel, boss and fitting.
Not sure if there are any insurance implications though.

Thanks all, one additional question (which perhaps Subie Gal can answer), do the indicators still self cancel with a smaller "racing" wheel? If so, do you have to do anything special to make them so?
(I only ask 'cos I have a vague memory of someone saying this might be a problem.)
Thanks,
Andy

Andy,
You need a suitable steering boss to mount an aftermarket wheel to the Subaru.
Speak to Simon Chamberlain at Graham Goode Racing 0116 244 0080 with regards to their steering boss which they have just developed for the Subaru to enable fitment of an aftermarket non-airbag wheel. I'm not sure whether their boss has indicator cancelling built on or what they have done to overcome the horn but both these problems can be overcome with a bit of fiddling.

I recently replaced the airbag wheel on my 96MY turbo with a non-airbag Momo from a Legacy that I got from Grade A Subaru in Hayfield, fairly straight forward job.
I still have cancelling indicators and horn works OK. Wheel looks good too.
You have to mod the boss, which if you email me I will explain in detail. Once you have the boss on you can then fit any Momo wheel if you fancty a change later.
Cheers
