All this talk about gauges and Im feeling left out http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Has anyone got, seen or know of anyone doing a pod for the early cars. Ideally I want 3 gauges. Does anybody do an A pillar pod or one for on top of the dash.

Cheers

Richie

Alternatively has anyone binned the cigarette lighter and ashtray to fit gauges (although Im reluctant to do this)

Has anyone tried VDO and know where to get em, I rather like the look.

When i do eventually get round to installing my car hifi and bits http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif, cigie lighter and ashtray will exit stage left, but in my opion this din slot would be to low to put gauges as your eyes would have to leave the road for longer to look at them.
PE do an A pillar for one and i think hks do a steering mount dont know how many for though.

Good point about taking your eyes off the road. Ive seen gauges down there and it look good, but not nearly as sweet as having them up top. As far as I know PE do an A pillar gauge for 1 (ala Stefs AFR gauge). I think the HKS is for the smaller size STi type boost gauge.

Come on manufacturers, lets have a custom fit 3 gauge pod for the dash top for the earlier cars.

Richie, i've got a boost gauge in my 93 wrx. I put the radio in the lower position of the double din thingy and made up a metal support to fit into the top slot. This was then faced with thin plastic (like the dash is made of) and the boost gauge fitted and connected up. I had to modify that performance masterpiece (cupholders) to get a perfect fit. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark. Ive got my CD in the lower slot oo. Can you expand on how you fitted the gauge into the top slot and cup holder space please. Ideally have you got any photos of said mod??

PS Has anyone seen the gauge pod that MRT do for all Imprezas. It sits on top of the dash and fits 3 52mm gauges. Prob is its Carbon finish which I reckon will look well out of place against the OE dash. And its about £120.

Worth a look, can anyone copy it in Vacuum formed plastic?????

Richie. After removing the centre console surround and measuring the size of the opening I got some 2mm thick steel and drew out the template. I also allowed plenty to make the tabs for fixing it to the existing support frame behind the centre console. The tabs were bent at 90 degrees to the face part and drilled to take self tapping screws. I marked on the hole for the gauge (52mm) and cut this out using an abrafile (cuts all directions). Then the plate was test mounted and the facing plastic marked and cut to suit. I held this in place with evostick. The gauge was then connected to the vaccuum hose and electric feed for the light and fitted to the bracket. The mod i had to do to the cup holders was a bit extreme. Basicly cut everything away apart from that moulded bit that you get your fingers in to pull it out. Its just there to keep it looking good.

I reckon another one but it would mean a new bracket being made as I didn't think i'd want/need/like another one. I put the boost gauge in the middle! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

GReddy do a 1/2/3 A pillar pods, seen them on a recent visit to U.S. We've also binned the ash tray/lighter, used MDF and vinyl to mount
fits in with rest of car. We used to have the
gauges on the A pillar but got to much attention from local and visiting pondlife.
A word of caution though, some of the gauges
cost more than some stereo's, plus there easier to rip out.
Anyway enough doom & gloom check out GReddy's
web site

Im going to try using the later model gauge pod (like Stefs) and adapting it to fit the early dash.

Not sure how it will turn out but its been done before and looks pretty good (apparently).

Is it just a case of popping into my local dealer? Am I right in thinking this is the part number: H0017FC900OE ???

Thanks

RIchie
