Is it possible to get the indicator and wiper stalks changed round to the European standard?(ie indicators on the left). Each time I see another Scoob, I set off the wipers while trying to flash (my lights that is). Having spent 15 years driving with the indicators/flash on the left, I'm finding it difficult to adjust.

For the record I've got a MY93 WRX.

Just for the record, all my early cars had indicators on the right (Granada MK1, Rover2000, Austin Healy, MGB etc) and only in the early 80's did they change to the left (eg MK2 Granada/Escort etc).
It may grate on you (and hence change your mind) to know that this change was brought about by European legislation that deemed that indicators should be mounted on the opposite side to the gearchange and therefore all European cars shall be fitted with left hand indicators..........
Japan like BRITAIN have right-hand drive cars, I'll leave the rest to you.

Best to leave as they are, trust me you will get use to it. Had a WRX for the last year,
now second nature. It's not to late to teach an old dog new tricks http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
The fun only starts when you get into a lesser vehicle when the stalks are on the WRONG WAY!

Jerome,

Which is the safest - indicating when changing gear or turning the wipers on ? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif - I know argaubly neither! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

If you really want to change them, you could try a breakers for a UK steering column/stalks -

USA cars have the controls with the indictors on the left. You will need the yolk and all the wiring and also turn the steering centre tube and reset the steering wheel so that the indicators cancel. Personally its more bother than its worth so i didnt bother. Suggest you look at a Haynes Manual and you will see what i mean. Parts sourcing will be a mojor problem in the uk so you will have to look to the us via the usenet group

Thanks for the advice guys. I've decided to stick with the current set up.

It's weird, I can jump in left or right hookers (vehicles that is!) and various types of vehicle (lorrys, tracks, plant etc) and drive no probs. But a small thing like the indicators being back to front has had me all confused. Pretty minor thing to overcome considering how bl**dy good the car is though. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

You will get used to it and find it better the 97 UK cars had the winkers (read carefully) on the right , imagine my delight when my 00 came with them on the left http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif I thought it was because it is dutch but no they are all like it , I blame the govt. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Driving the car standing on your head will cure the problem http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I had this problem when I first got my Impreza (MY95). Although it took a bit of getting used to, I now prefer the way it is (indicator on right). I think it makes using the controls a lot easier and safer.

Trust me, after a few weeks, you'll prefer it...
