Hi,

I have a Worcester Bosch 230 gas combi boiler and in the last week I'm finding that the hot taps have to be turned on quite high before the unit will kick into life and start heating the water.

Last weekend i changed the bathroom taps, it definately wasn't doing this before changing the taps, could this have anything to do with it?

Any help gratefully received :)

I am no heating engineer, but could the flow rate through the new tap be insufficient to trigger the boiler? I assume there must be some sort of flow rate or pressure sensor which triggers the boiler................

Nah, this is all taps in the house. You used to be able to turn them on quite low and the boiler would kick in, now they have to be turned more than half way.

As you say there must be something that monitors the pressure or the flow when the taps are turned on so that it knows to heat the water .....

I would say that the divertor valve diaphragm is shot so either change the diaphragm which costs about £1 or the whole valve for £80 plus labour, needless to say only to be done by CORGI reg persons.

Col, I can put you in touch with a reasonably priced gas man on the IOW if you want... :)

Thanx for the offer Dave but I've actually got British Gas cover (I think).

I'm just one of those types that'd sooner sort it out myself than having to organise getting somebody to look at it and someone waiting in for them.

just a quick thought... when you changed the taps you would have had to turn off the mains water, make sure you have turned it back on enough, coz if not the flowrate may not be enough to bring on the boiler as before. This would affect all the taps too. Other than that its gonna be as Mog says.
