View Full Version : Changin tyres after Powerstation geommetry - do you let the tyre monkeys do tracking. papascooby 23 June 2004, 18:20 and alignment? cheers PJA 23 June 2004, 19:23 If it was set up by Powerstation why do you want to adjust the tracking ?? PJA papascooby 24 June 2004, 09:28 that's my point really - so you let them change the tyres but do nothing else. I have a slow puncture :( after 4000 miles - could i get away with replacing just one? Scoobydick 25 June 2004, 15:21 If the garage has the computer laser 4 wheel alignment stuff (which lots do now) they can accurately check you wheel alignment / tracking. Their database will have just the Subaru standard settings but they can just as easily check your Powerstation settings if you know what they are and you give them the measurments. After all it is just tweeking a few bolts basically to do any adjustment required - while I do not at all doubt Powerstation are excellent, I can't believe people on here travel 100's of miles to get their tracking done. A tyre place near me charged £40. I thought they were sh1tting me when they said both front and back were way out but I went with it anyway after a bit of umming and arring. Has transformed the car - feels much more like rwd now and that is just standard subaru settings. Scoobydick 25 June 2004, 15:23 Also to add that whatever your geometry settings you should get it checked every 6 months or so as it is easy enough to knock out with a pot hole, clipping a kerb etc. papascooby 25 June 2004, 15:24 cheers dick :) BrynO 25 June 2004, 15:54 Some garages use laser alignment kit which they just hook over the tyres 2 at a time (so they can do the back) whilst the car is sitting on the garage floor, surely can't be as acurate as the stuff the pros use where they bolt a unit to each of the 4 wheel rims at the same time whilst the car sits on 4 flat bed plates on a lift. I had the former done on my Lotus a while ago and they completely arsed it up, i guess a lot of it comes down to quality of the person using the kit as well as the kit itself, it's who you trust. N1 SPAN 26 June 2004, 07:55 Had my geo / wheel alignment done now approx 8 times. Has only been done properly twice, once by Powerstation & once by R.B. Motorsport in Lancashire. I have a mate that tells me the tyre monkey has a laser thing and it transformed his Peugeot! They manage to balls my car up every time though and so does the Subaru dealer! In my eyes it may seem steep to pay £100 to have it done but I have wasted £200 having it ballsed up! |
