Ok, so may be I am bias but I just wanted to post a message about how bloody good I'm finding owning a Teg. Being a previous Scoob owner its amazing how good a Teg is bearing in mind its meant to be a focused race car for the road.

Its got a bit of performance on tap without huge fuel bill costs. From a practical point of view the other day I put the rear seats down and got loads of stuff in the back. I know its looks aren't everyone's cup of tea but I don't see that many on the road day to day and so I like it for its exclusivity factor. If you can find a low mileage, quality example then my advice is to snap it up!!

To get the most out of it you have to rev the nuts out of it but I like the fact that if I'm not in the mood I change gear at 3000 rpm and wouldn't know I wasn't in a standard 1.8 coupe, gettting nearly 31 mpg on avearage is a huge bonus over what I used to get in the Scoob.

Honda were mad not to give the UK the DC5!!

Got to agree mate, bought a new one in '98 and loved it to bits. Unfortunately, repeated vandalism meant I had to sell it (jealous bastids !).

Have now moved to the countryside - no vandalism, but smeg loads of tree sap

true, my bro's Integra got vandalised a few days ago, bar$tards kicked the car on both sides creating a huge dent in the rear quarter..... totally pointless they wern't after anything....

 

I went round nurburgring in one and it was the ride of my life! I'd also been round in a 500bhp Makinen edition evo full of HKS bits and a 996 but this was the most fun.

 

I've been driving a DC5 since last year in addition to my WRX MY96. I have to say it is very entertaining. VTEC is addictive, but you do have to take it on track to really exploit it.

I was hunting for a DC2 ITR but found that an Accord Type R would be better suited for me.... After a while of hunting, I finally found one in the red with the spec I wanted, and I picked it up last Saturday.

It is truly AWESOME! I love it to bits. Haldling is so precise mental performance, overtaking is effortless, and I hardly see any others on the road. And, for a Nov '00 X plate car it was a frikin' bargain!

Even though it is grp18 insurance, it is a hell of a lot cheaper to insure than a Scooby (which I see is grp17) and there is no need for a tracker or anything. I am £400 cheaper to insure the Accord... doesn't seem much, but when you consider I am paying £460 to insure it, it then begs the question why is is a group higher, and half the cost to insure?!?!?!

 

Jesus what was your car before then ??? ATR take about 20 secs to get to 100mph hardly fast ..

The ITR is in a differnet league performance and handling

 

I have had 3 Golf's as my last cars - Mk3 GTI 16v, Mk4 Turbo (APR'd), Mk3 VR6. This is in a different league to those..... For me, it is amazing to drive

I don't think 20 secs to 100 is right at all... I've not had a stop watch out, but think 20 secs is way off the mark. EVO mag quote it as 6.1 secs to 60.... Ok, I think this is optimistic.... but 20secs to 100 must br wrong IMHO.... Where you getting your info from????

 

Why is it wrong ?? it's a heavy car with not that much HP...The Integra takes about 16 secs I think so the ATR should be slower ???

Yeah easily faster than a standard one, 23 secs to the ton or something , mine is a bit faster than standard mind, infact has 60hp more so considerably faster

Got a video somewhere from Donington and for some reason, maybe have been the driver but the ATR seemed out of it's depth on the track, far out of it's depth than my spam chariot MINI was, really didnt have any problem passing it and I'm a pretty crap driver...

DC2's are fantastic cars, prefer them over the latest DC5 infact

Yeah standard lardy Cooper S is pretty pathetic, then again easy pulley and remap to get over 200hp

Accord Type-R:

0-60 - 6.1secs
0-100 - 17.4secs

Integra Type-R (DC2):

0-60 - 6.2secs
0-100 - 17.9secs


They also handle superbly!

LOL oh well I got the time from that 1/4 mile freeserve site Clio 182 fast then really I suppose .... At Donington when I was following one it seemed out of it's depth thats all.....

Think my MINI manages about 16 secs to the ton now, still not fast in the scheme of things just struggles to get the power down, 97mph trap speed at Santa Pod aint to bad though for a lard bucket

 

Interested to know how these compare to my Fiat Coupe Turbo performance wise, is it true about the lack of low down grunt or doesnt it matter in normal use ?

 

Coupe Turbo's always manage to get under 15 secs for the 1/4 mile at Santa Pod, 14 secs to 100 I think too, ok FWD but they do manage to get their power down well, big midrange punch too. Not really comparable IMO, Coupe is far faster and it's got good torque for easy lazy day to day driving.

I like forced induction motor though so I'm a tad biased

 

Cheers Rich - I was going to look for the details tonight... 209BHP and the 6.1 to 60 was all I could remember off the top of my head. Def not a heavy car by any means Drives like a much smaller car than it actually is and the handling is spot on.

 

I bet the Type R's are more of a frantic drive though, my Coupe is fast but I miss my mk2 Golf GTI !

 

yeah, the ATR can be a smooth drive if I take it easy... It is still quite revvy (90MPH on motorway is 4500RPM) so it could have been done with a 6th gear.

Compared to my Golf's I don't miss it - they were quick, smooth etc, but this is firmer, faster, more of a driving experience and therefore puts more of a smile on my face when I drive it. Only downside is that it's horn is sh*t Need to get a new one!!

 

Autocar got a DC2 to 100 in 16.something seconds.

Had one for a while and loved it.

To answer the question above, no, the comparative lack of low down power is not an issue.

They are as strong as any naturally asperated non Vtec 1.8 to the cam profile change point - its just after that they go mental

Stunnung cars - would have kept it had finaincial circumstances allowed me to justify it as a second car.
