article in one of the mags this month & it mentions it is Ok to do this; providing it doesn't interfere or obscure the vehicle registration plate.

IIRC you need to put a cross or single line through them whilst on the road. Might be wrong though sounds like a Q that Greasemonkey and Co would have the official answer for.

My mate has got a Castrol Rally Replica GT-4 that has got the Number 1 on the doors, and he doesnt get any hassle from the Police who see him regularly as he lives within a minute's walk from a main sub-station!!

However, he has said that if he goes to England then he'll need to put a single black line through it.

Cheers,
Grant

Steve

AFAIK illegal but Lots of people get away with it by having microscopic small letters above that say...

"fred bloggs subaru dealer number .."

1 (huge lettering)

"for service" in microscopic writing

From a few feet away all you can see is a big number 1 !!

Thankfully, it does seem that the police have better things to worry about.

However, if they pulled you over because you were being an ****, it could be one of those things that means you do end up getting fined/stopped/taken off the road (I really don't know what could happen - hopefully you can get the point that I'm making)

Cheers,
Nick.

Yes they are legal, but as already stated they have to have a line through them. But i dont put a line through mine, and the police dont even bother as long as your not being to forward with them here's mine

Isn't the line/x through them one of those motorsport regulatory bodies rules rather than law though?
ie u can't compete in our rally if u drive on the road without a cross through your number.
didn't think having numbers on your car was illegal thou.

Question

my understanding of this is,
You must have a single black line ( doesn't say how wide the line has to be ) going diagonally thru the number, otherwise should sh!te happen ur insurance company could refuse to pay out as they could class it as rallying
This is what i've been told so..... ?

I think the main thing here is to decide wether or not you are in a competition car, if your convinced that you are then I , I`m sorry! I mean, you can`t see a problem, if however you are not, then it may be wise to cover the number up. Perhaps with a stripe of equal size and proportions to the number and its background, and in the same colour as your car.

It beggers belief!
