Guys need a bit of help....

I'm currently in the process of redecorating my lounge, unfortunately the last owner decided to cover the walls in ARTEX paint :( .

What would be the best course of action to get smooth walls?

1. Trip off the ARTEX paint then have the walls skimmed
2. Just get the walls skimmed over the ARTEX

Would I get a better finish Skim without ARTEX?

Thanks in advance.......

Get a plasterer to PVA all walls stick new angle beads on all angles and skim , >> no need to remove artex first unless its lose, cheers Alan.

We done the same (Whole House)

PVA'd then applied plaster. Scrapped the highpoints on the Artex

Thanks for your comments guys....

Removed some more ARTEX tonight before i saw your comments.

Oh well....

Would you guys say re the coving on the ceiling, would have to come off too? or do you recon that they could skim it with it still there?

Be careful here... if it's not proper artex, and turns out to be that polyripple sh!te that diy'ers use, it won't have enough adhesion to support new plaster...you sometimes find the weight of the plaster pulls the " artex " off the wall. Am now prepared to be contradicted!! :D

i had an artexed ceiling with coving. got a good plasterer who put on a tight bonding coat and then skimmed on top. blended it to the coving. looks top dollar - no-one would guess that it isn't the original plaster.
