Getting the rotty in this week-end now that its dried up a bit and as buggerall weeds have appeared over the last 3 weeks, going to start on the grassing.

So, I'm not after anal billiard table quality, I have a small person and moles and rabbits to stuff that, but don't want pampas grass. I think "sports grass" would be OK. I want green and flat & I'll mow high not close.

So what recommendations for a reasonable quality grass & where to get from? Names please!

Cheers

fes-cue James, lol :D

fescure is a grass type, in case you dont get my sad joke, heh.. :)

Serioulsy, anything the local B & Q store will sell will be prob do, any hard wearing utility ryegrass mix will be fine. 90% fine leaved dwarf perennial ryegrass and 10% Creeping Red Fescue for binding the lawn together will do fine.

Pampas grass aint really a turf grass mind, but I think you knew this hehe :)

Bowling greens etc use a mix of grass types like the afore mentioned chewing red fescue, brown top bents, etc. These make a good hard wearing surface are tolerant of close mowing but need this about 3 times a week, they dont really like drought conditions, are prone to disease and are generally best left to green keepers and blue rinse bowlers :)

Luxury lawn mix (not for kids) contains 75% Creeping Red Fescue to bind the lawn together, 20% Chewings Fescue to tolerate close mowing and 5% Bentgrass for good winter greenness.

My own fave:

25% Bellvue Perennial ryegrass
30% Elegana Perennial ryegrass
20% Barpearl Slender creeping red fescue
20% Lobi Chewings fescue
5% Highland brown top bent

Gl :)
