I have an RB5 (<2000miles), I would like to take off the covers on the driving lamps, but am concerned about stone-chips / breakages.

Are clear protective guards available or will they just melt ??

Sounds stupid I know, but I want to use what I have paid for, but equally want to protect my investment.

Thoughts ???

Afraid not, the only clear covers available are for the Cibie driving lamps provided by Scoobysport.

Given that many owners drive with the standard fog lamps uncovered and never experience problems, then by the law of averages you will probably be OK.

I don't know if Prodrive or anyone else has thought about doing clear covers for the PIAA lamps - could be quite a big market for them....

I also have an RB% and have had the front of the car and the headlights and driving lights armourfended. This is a clear plastic film, the foilm on the headlights is very thick and definitely does th ejob as I hit something on the motorway and the light did not break. Their number is 01992 892896.

Hope it helps

Julian
p.s I had them install it.

Hi John,

Sorry to disappoint you, but I managed to break one of my foglights with a stone thrown up by the car in front.

The law of averages wasn't in my favour that day.

Ian

If you want Law of averages I once managed to get one PIAA spotlamp lens cracked on a drive up to York and the other one on the drive back down. But in 2 1/2 years that was the only problems so perhaps I was just very unlucky that day.

Don't know what type of lights are fitted to a RB5 but I've been running a standard MY96 from new. First Purchase was a set of Clear covers from my local dealer, cost around a tenner, & have worked a treat.

I was able to get clear covers for my MY99 driving lamps from the dealer - Quenbys (Royston) cost about £15.

They came in two flavours:
1.) Clear!
2.) Clear with tacky fake carbon fibre surround.

For taste sake don't get number 2!!!!

PS I also got the headlamp covers as these also look extremly exposed - a bit 'grandad' I know but at least its cheaper than new headlamp units.

Cheers
ColinCo

ColinCo,

I think what you're talking about is fog-light covers for your MY99 fog-lights, not driving-light covers for the PIAA driving-lights supplied with the RB5, for which clear covers are not available as far as I know.
