Default STI front bumper splitter

Anyone got one of these for a WRX? This is listed as $125 painted from ravspec.com, seems a good price and is probably the missing link for my cosmetic redo of my WRX (still need badges though)

mrklaw,

I put the two corner splitters of the STI 8, on my 03 WRX.
They come painted and you can get them from your dealer for £110 the pair.
There easy to fit, just needs slots cutting into the bumper (not as bad as it sounds) and they look the dog's ........ !

Cheers. Do they come with full instructions? Seems like you can get most parts from your local dealer if you can dig out the part no.

£110 !!!!! just to confirm that's a UK dealer we're talking about?

I'd of thought a Subaru dealer would be selling that type of part for £200+. Any part numbers available..... silver is posible

you can probably get it yourself by ringing the parts dept. of a good dealer.

I've had great fun over the last few days finding part numbers by description. The part guy usually goes off to rifle through the catalog. no problem so far getting part numbers for the STI8 scoop and fog covers. I'd expect the splitter to be the same.

only concern is fitting instructions where a part isn't designed to be consumer fitted -i.e its a bodyshop part only.

IMO they are a bit of a bargain for a painted genuine Subaru part. Doubt there will be instructions to help fit them to a WRX but it should be easy enough.

Yes thats any UK dealer !
The part number for them in WR Blue is :-

S57742FE000PG & S57742FE010PG (left & right)

The last two letters are for the colour code, PG = WR Blue
the parts guy will know the code for silver.

And best of all ........ they are only £104.90 for the two.

mrklaw

Sorry, they don't come with any instructions, but take it from me,
they are quite easy to fit !

All you need is a 3mm drill, a craft knife & a small file.

(oh.... and a role of masking tape too protect the paintwork when you are cutting the sh*t out of your brand new bumper)

Job takes about 3 to 4 hours, and together with the fog light covers, is a TOP MOD

they quoted £150, and there was only one part number (didn't give it), so the parts guy didn't think it was painted So expensive for a painted one.

Do the bumper splitters come properly painted? I just got the fog light covers in black and they are a straight glossy black plastic, not the Mica style of the rest of the car. Maybe thats just the way the covers are, but I'd hope the splitters are properly painted?

marklaw

did you you quote the part number for the foglight covers?

I got the foglight covers and there a perfect match to my WR Blue car.
Did you foglight covers come with the STi stickers on them?

When I first enquired at my dealer I was told that they didn't come painted ,then I was told they only come in WR Blue but I would need stickers.
The quoted £70 each ,rang another dealer quoted the part number £30+vat each

Hi Jasoon,

My covers were already black, with the stickers on. But they seem to be glossy black with no metallic on. The original foglight recesses were painted as the bodywork with metallic flakes. Maybe its just because they are covers and not part of the bodywork.

Thats why I'm wondering whether the bumper splitters are considered bodywork or covers. I'll need another trip into the dealership to check some out. Hope they don't mind me on my knees in front of their STIs again!

That lip does look nice, but I've got a black car, so it won't contrast as much as that (the contrast adds something I think).

Probably either go for the combo you mention, the drmotorsports front bumper, or the japanparts one in my other thread here. whichever I go for is after the spoiler on my list, and I'll need someone to fit it for me (front bumper stuff will need drilling- I've seen the instructions for the lip!)

You could always ask ex-pug what his are like he has a black STi

next thing on my list is a quickshift, providing the girlfriend doesn't throw a wobbler and stops me spending any more money

Thanks for the info. Got the fog covers already and must admit they too are a bargin at £65 (after SIDC discount) Very well painted (in silver) with the stickers in the right places. Makes the front of my MY04 Wagon look different

On fitting the side splitters.... I presume they're a similar thing to the covers. You're just cutting holes for the mounting clips (best thing I could think of to describe them) attached to the splitter, to fit into? Did you 'bond' them at all to the bumper?

Just got some photos of the STI front bumper corner splitters ,and they look as if they would take about 10 minutes a side to fit.
All you need to do is put 3 small slots in the bumper along the line (at the top of the corner splitters) ,and a hole on the curve down by the foglight.
I would imaging that you would be able to glue them and they would be a more secure fit than standard.

Looks like there's about 7 other fixings that go onto the bumper but they should already be there.

Thanks for that. I presume the STi ones are the ones we're talking about for £110?

Mrklaw...... My post was for GTOMO, not you.... sorry.

Hey GTOMO, I don't suppose you took lots of photos and wrote a step by step guide?

Sorry for the delay,

In answer to your question, no I didn't take photos I was going to but just didn't get around to it !

To fit the splitters, you have to cut 3 slots in the crease of the bumper, for the top 3 clips on the splitter to fit into.
make shure that you dont make them loose, they want to be a very tight fit (needing a firm push to get the clips into the slots)

I removed the other 3 round button fasteners from the front of the splitter, by drilling through the plastic spot welds that hold the button bracket on. (be carefull not to drill through the splitter)

I then used black cable ties to secure the splitter to the bottom of the bumper, there are about 6 or 7 holes to secure the two together, and they are well out of sight.

I have teted them at over 130 MPH and they are fine !

But it took me 3 or 4 hours to do both sides, you can't rush cutting the slots, the eages really do need to be nice and square.
Take your time and make a good job of it !

Good luck !
