2nd try .... due to technical problem

you many have seen my other thread, FAO West Yorkshire, but if not, please read on...


unfortunately, i had a crankshaft bearing failure, being in a financial position not to be able to afford a rebuild, i managed to locate another engine supply and fit (via ebay).

having had my engine removed and replaced, i paid the fee, and 6 miles down the road a radiator hose was not connected, and ultimately the head gasket failed...and ended up on the back of an RAC truck

Now, Neither the supplier, or the engine fitter wish to take any responsibility ..so having borrowed the money to get this engine, i now have neither the engine or the money to repair it.

The supplier are Enkahnz - body specialists, and the fitter was H&I autos, both of Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Enkhanx did offer to give me my original headers back, as a good will gesture, but the engine fitter still maintains, 'not his problem'.


Needless to say, am Gutted..!!



Anyone know how easy it is do a head gasket? or know where i can get the req'd gasket kits from other than Subaru who quoted me £270.

I feel for you matey, i had a clutch and head gaskets go on me amost at the same time, cost me neary 2k! but hasn't gone wrong since!

give pro sport in manchester or grade A a ring.

when my head gaskets went it was less than £100 for a pair of uprated metal gaskets.

or even try your local motor factors.

Prosport, and Subaru have quoted in the region of £800 - £1000 to do the job...., after just spending out £1300, thats just a bit beyond what i can afford. if i cant do it for considerably less, then i may have to look at breaking it up...as i cant afford another £1000.... i hope it doesnt come to that, or my |Subaru days are over.

Have you tried ringing scoobyclinic, i bet they will quote you a lot less than that, if your interested there no is (01246 590807) hope this help's m8,

plus hope you dont have to break it, seem's a shame you cant do anything about it m8.

Time to be cheeky, me thinks......:)

At the I.O.M TT's you would often see a mangled wreck of a bike outside a biker frequented alehouse.

It would have a sign on it, or a sad looking plaster of paris adorned biker holding a sign saying something like, " 3rd party only please give generously."
And believe me they did.

Maybe that wouldnt quite work with your car. But reading your sad story its not far off.
But you could do a sponsored 'something or other', and test ScoobyNet members kindness.
How many members read this forum ?
How many would be able to part with a few quid ?

ive managed to sell the sti5 spoiler, and some other bits ...so thats funds towards the rebuild.

if anyone is interested in a Prodrive stainless stel backbox...mint condition...i think the going rate is around £150 ;..proceeds to further increase my chances of getting the rebuild done...

come on there must be 50 to 100 people who are interested in the blackpool lights run or went to the last ones, if all of us put a 10er in he could have the work done and get himself back on the road. so get your hands in your pockets!

Guys ....... i cant begin to thank you enough for this...but , i could not possibly accept. It is truely an overwhelming offer of kindness.

I have got a couple of small options im just waiting on, before i have to make a final decision...... it looks as though i will be able to raise sufficient cash to get the job done, obviously the sale of a few bits have helped.

Frank, I know we've never met but the offer still stands here.

Ive been surprised and am extremly grateful with the amount of help and support Ive got over the last year from subaru community with my GL, so its nice to be able to help others out if I can.

anyway .. I hope you manage to get the scoob sorted mate and make sure you warn off people about that bloody mechanic! he should have insurance to cover his f*** ups and not let it fall back on the customer!

Get him to get on the phone to trading standards immediately

sound right to me, a mechanic cant just say "No im not taking responcibility for it" when it was a water hose that was loose after "he" fitted it. it doesnt work like that.

i have spoken to CAB and Trading standards, and recieveed paperwork from them.

As the engine was fitted by the garage next to the supplier of it, in this case H&i, i dont actually have a comeback on them, as they carried out the work on behalf of the supplier, it was the supplier i parted my cash too...so in their eyes, it makes him solely responsible. Also, i should be entitled to compensation, as even tho the product sold and fitted was second hand, it still was not fit for purpose.

The supplier maintains the engine was ok, but the TS stance is that just because it was ok on the premises doesnt make it ok, when you use it...... the phrase 'sold as seen' does not apply as that can only be applied to something you can see..ie bodywork.

I am going to give the supplier one final opportunity to provide compensation, but if he wont be amicable, then clearly i will let the law do their thing..

That sounds really positive Frank, after all all you want is a working car again.

Ask for Howard, he works on Scoob rally cars and does very good work for reasonable cost.

Im going to check out the engine tonight.... the guy selling assumes me it will fit, and he will fit it for me, so if it dont fit then he will have to take it back out.

will keep you posted...... but once again, thanks for all the support

great news m8, hope it fits in ok. make sure u follow up about the other one though and get your money back!

If I were in Franks situation I would be asking for the cost of the 2nd replaceent engine, plus fitting plus adequate compensation (time of vehicle off the road, stress etc.) which should also include the cost of repairing the 1st replacement engine to bring it up to a saleable condition and any costs involved in selling that engine on.
