I read with interest, amusement and disblelief some of the comments made recently about our rally.

As I am on the club committee as public relations person, I would like to welcome all new members, and anyone thinking of joining us!

We meet once a fortnight at the Robin Hood, Baslow. Club nights provide DVD's/videos, table top rallies, car based quizes, chat evenings (20th May we hope to have British champion Steve Perez and his Focus WRC!) Scalextric events, family fun treasure hunts and the opportunity to chat about cars over a pint or two!

During the winter we run a 12 car series aimed at newcomers. These events provide a couple of hours competition for people to gain experience of the navigation and timing used on full blown road rallies. We organise two National B road rallies each year these are 110-150 mile events covering most types of road including some rough sections known a whites.

We are always looking for new competitors, marshals and organisers, so if you are joining to compete, please ask your friends to support you by marshalling. We have been east midlands champion club for about the last 20 years, and club members have been drivers' and navigators' champions many times over!

At the moment our region allows 4x4 and turbo cars, however some areas do ban them. These type of car usually run in the standard car class, where strict rules apply to what can and can't be done in the way of modifications.

The club has a wealth of experience in competing and organising, and most members are willing to help newcomers so don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure about some aspect of the sport.

we went last night and joined "well 2 of us did" the other are going to be very soon...

ses has done it backwards though, he didnt join last night but has been and got a car and started prepping it already! :confused: but anyway.

was yours the e30 m3?

saw it, it looked very nice! must say I dont think I would have the balls to use that in a rally! to scared of breaking it! :D

yes thanks for info, i was the other one that joined and just wondered why is it they are banning 4X4 turbo's, because seems to me thats cutting your nose off to spite your face, dont let them do it im sure that would take even just the dream of working your way up(even if it is just a dream), away from it, rally means rally and i cant see how the argument gets to the turbo, would like to be informed? :confused:

The talked about ban seems to come from the RAC Motor Sports Association, they are concerned about the speed of this type of vehicle on the public highway.

There is not usually much sense to what they ban, for instance they limited lighting to only four forward facing beams from the 80's ie. two headlights plus two spot lights. Surely rallying at night would be safer if you could see more of where you were going? The RAC seem to think otherwise!??

Certain areas do currently ban them volountarily. It is also difficult to scrutineer the standard car formula, as there have been many grey import cars appearing with unknown specifications.

[ Yep it is a near standard E30 M3, only suspension mods, a cage, seats and harnesses. The car actually stands me at less than I had spent on my previous Mk2 Escort! Plus it is very unusual to see one road rallying!

I reckon your M3 is great Simon! Do you not have a sumpguard then??

I especially liked your start on the Beaver last year! Also, why did you give up on the Bruce in feb? It was easy and I was a novice!! But I do live in lincs!

No sump guard or tank guard, so steady down the whites!

Charlie could not get the navigation to work at all, as it used this convention peculiar to Linclonshire where gated roads are not included on all roads
sections!!!???

We lost 20 or so mins on the section after half way, then got caught up with slower cars in the late teens/mid twenties, and struggled getting past as they didn't want to pull over! We decided not to risk the car and cut to the finish.

Good job you cut on the bruce then as I think you whould have done some damage on Wickenby, we bent a chassi rail on the corolla!

It was a bit stupid not includuing gated roads, to us at Lincs Louth, all roads mean all roads. You can be assured that our events use better (unambiguous) navigation than lincoln

Looks like I have made some progress..

Got a car Nova GTE & a driver :D

So hoping work dependent to collect it sometime this or next week & start the prep work..
