Question 1997 impreza Turbo 2000 AWD - Turbo??

Hi guys

im new.. so quick hi!.... just got my impreza turbo wednesday lastweek and loving it!!!

i have a question tho......... in 1997 on this model i read they used a smaller turbo too gain quicker pickup? anyone able too tell me what Turbo was actually used??? so i can find out what boost i can run it on maximum? with the standard intercooler for now until i get my front mounted one.

Also...my friend has a 1994 Sti scooby... which hes ordered a Stage2 HKS turbo for.... im wondering if i can fit his standard Sti turbo on mine??? and send my turbo back as the exchange unit then...

Many thanks

Hi,

It's fitted with a Td04 as standard, good for about 280-290 bhp max. I believe the maximum boost that can sensibly be run with this turbo is about 1.25 bar but if you are going to do this you will want to have a knocklink fitted, if you don't already have one, so you can be sure the engine isn't detting and about to die. Also, it'd be a good idea to get it checked out to make sure it's not running too lean at full throttle / boost.

My97 comes with TD04 or TD04L for limited edition.Going more than 1.1bar it will be only pushing hot air.Motec is 1 of the best ECUs money can buy to get the best out of mods.

I have Td04 running 1.3 bar and peaks at 1.40 sometimes with no problems! All monitored and controlled by a power FC. Get very low "knock" levels which are alot less than what the standard ecu runs!
