Can anybody tell me how to do this? Ive purchased the surround with the fixing screws and whatnot but what just wondering what steps i need to take to fit it, i understand that there will be drilling involved but i was wondering how i get the leather skirt thing off? It looks glued on?
Im at a loss as there was no instructions and i really dont want to have to go to a dealer and pay them go knows how much to fit it!!
Any help appreciated,
Neil.

Hi Neil,
If your car is a classic dont panic its not that hard. firstly uncrew the gear knob, then you have to take out the whole plastic part that the laether skirt thing is fastened two. its a bit fiddly but it comes out easily. the leather skirt is fastened to this on the underside.

Would have thought that the same principals apply, worth a try anyway!
Good luck :)

i think the principle is the same....but im having trouble removing the leather from the plastic bit....its held on with circular clips? it just bends them when i try to take them off!

when i did mine i also replaced the leather gaitor with a aftermarket one. this had holes in it so it fitted between the aluminium surround and the collar that goes underneath. the original leather gaitor had been removed by someone else before and they had broken all the little plastic lugs that the metal clips are on. think you will struggle to remove the clips without breaking the plastic lugs

I have looked at those aluminium gaitor surrounds.
But i still have one of those mitchelin man rubber gaitors:(
I dont think the surround would fit over this at the edges. How do you remove these?
If i bought a replacement leather gaitor, would it fit in the existing clips. I have heard that you can pick up replacement leather gaitors for £10 from high street car accessory shops.
Just dont want to pull out the old one, and then find i cant fit the new one:eek:
Sorry to have hi-jacked your thread Neilo.

No probs on the hijack...as i might have to do this myself, although its all in there now, i think ill leave it for a while. I had to actually cut the plastic with a stanley knife to make the surround fit, but i believe that they do that at the dealers anyway. The problem i had wactually attaching the surround to the leather skirt thing. I have resorted to glue!!! and then screws, so its now fixed ok. I think that i may go round the edge of the surround with black filler though, as there are some tiny gaps between that and the plastic of the console, but ill do that later on.
Hope you find what you need. If anybody wants a pic of what it looks like now they are more than welcome :P

The surround that i was thinking of was the etched one from scoobyparts (http://www.scoobyparts.com/html/interior.html)
It sounds like it is a perfect fit and just screws in place. Its the fastening of the gaitor that worries me:(
