The theme for round 5 is 'Senses'.

Photograph something that evokes a strong response from any of the senses. So, for example, photograph something with a strong smell like a cup of coffee or a lump of cheese. Photograph something that makes an ear-splitting noise like a low-flying aircraft or a rock concert, or a tiny sound like a pin drop. Photograph something searingly hot, freezing cold, sharp and spiky or soft and fuzzy. Show that a photograph can provoke a reaction from more than just the eyes.

Last day for entries is 4th April. We don't seem to be overwhelmed by photos, so I've taken the liberty of changing the rules slightly to allow three images per photographer this time - make the most of them :)

Entries should be posted in this thread (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=310392) as usual with discussion here.

Good luck everyone :)

Jesus, Andy. That gives something to get the brain working :)

I'll try to get an entry or three in this time. Gutted that work reared its ugly head and stopped me doing the flight one :(

Well done on winning, anyway.

Hm... is that the sound of distant shutters clicking I hear, or is it just the cat trying to gnaw its way into the food cupboard again?

Short of ideas? How about a chili, or a beer, or a Lego man having a freak construction accident. Look down the horn of a trumpet. Drop something heavy in the bath and capture the splash.

Mmm... beer. Must dash :)

Right then, a couple of entries up from me, I think Ive interpreted the subject correctly. Also Id like to take this opportunity to apologise for not entering the last round(Its taken a couple of weeks to read the manual for the new Nikon CoolPix 5700, and a couple of weeks to understand it :D )

Yay, a few photos at last :D

They're certainly on-topic, no worries there - sorry I wasn't able to post any examples this time, my DSLR is still with Canon :( That said, I do have a couple of shots taken with my camera phone, but the quality is so embarrassingly poor I didn't bother posting them.

Well my entries have bumped the thread back up top. Missed out on the last one, partly from being away at the time... that and seeing the (winning) entry, and being lost for ideas on how it could possibly be bettered!

Just been trying to take a pic of my own eye. Proving somewhat tricky, even with the use of mirrors. And I have a headache from the flash now. Doh!! :)

Nice shot :) I really must bite the bullet and shoot some film for this round. My digital camera is still with Canon :(

The reflection of the flash in the eye is called a catchlight, and it's usually regarded as a good thing because it makes the subject look more alive and awake. Examples here (http://www.phototakers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2142).

Looks like the seller on ebay has shafted me :(. Cheque cleared Thursday and now he say's that he has not received the cheque :(

I actually managed to get a shot of my eye using the "remote" software that came with the camera.

http://www.p.walkden.btinternet.co.uk/my_eye.jpg

But someone at work pointed out that my eye wasn't actually provocking (sp?) your senses when you look at the pic! So I didn't bother to post it in the end! :D

Cheers Andy nice link :)

Darren what camera is it and i'll have a nose for a pdf of manual for you :)

Duck pond i agree with you totally that the eye shot isn't overly provocking (also sp?) it does however fit in with the topic as 'senses', and whilst i love reading the thought that has gone into deciding the topic and what it means to the person in this case Andy, i think we should look at the topic title firstly and see what it means to us :)

It also wasn't going to be an entry at all from me, i was just playing around last night with it, and as i had nothing else yet thought what the hell :D

Cheers

Just to clarify - please, interpret the topic in your own way, don't worry about me!

The photo that inspired the idea for me was one I found on photo.net (I think!) of a cycle race. One of the riders had just fallen off, and the photo was taken at the exact instant that the cycle behind ran over his...

Suffice to say, it was a provocative photograph to say the least :D, and I wanted to see if anyone could capture a shot that had a similar effect. But, if the title means something else to you, go with it! This is all meant to be fun, after all :)

Sorry Andy wasn't having a dig honest :)

My brain functions at fairly low levels ;) so for me when i see the topic i take a moment to first say right what's the first thing that comes into your head when you say it.

For senses it was sight, smell, touch, hear, taste.

The next process for me it to say right how can i put that on screen/paper, i currently have a collection of shots ranging from my head between two speakers :o, speakers cones, mission logo and some food none i like though :(

The eye shot for me is just the first step :D

Cheers

Si, the camera is an EOS 5.

I spent 'ages' looking on the internet for a downloadable free pdf version of the manual and after hours of searching I found one, in bloody Japanese :( Doh.

I then decided to just buy one, they are only £10. Found one on ebay, won auction, sent cheque, cheque cashed and then the seller said that he has not received the cheque

I pressed him and said that I would be taking proceedings against who ever has cashed the cheque. Suddenly he found the cheque  . Really, you found the cheque? Funny that it’s already been cashed and cleared at the bank. Fecking idiot.

Anyway, it should arrive on Tuesday. Let’s hope.

Then I have to take some pictures. I'm away on business on Tuesday and Wednesday so I may sit in my hotel room taking pictures ;) :D

Have you found the EOS documentation project (http://eosdoc.com/manuals.asp)? There's no EOS 5 manual, but there are links to people who sell them.

Thanks Si, that would be wonderful. I'm not even sure that the seller is even going to ship the manual :(

Thanks for the link Andy. I had found this site before but I really wanted an orignal manual so thats why I was looking on ebay. They are about £10 to buy in orignal form so that's why I went down the ebay route. When a feckign mistake that was :(

Thanks :)

They've finished and moved on from here already. But at least the neighbours' cat left 'em alone this time. Perhaps assisted by my super soaker filled with vinegar...
